The nice thing about nights with multiple events going on, is that everyone is spread out. The bad thing is… You can’t do everything. I had actually planned on heading down with Jack on his latest talk show excursion however, some Men came calling… Some Mad Men.
Jack however, had a great night! Elle Fanning… AND Halle Berry! That’s pretty damn impressive. Two awesome people. I gotta say.
Check out Jack’s full report after the jump!
Man oh man I love days like this. After starting out the year great with talk show tapings my luck has taken a turn for the worst. I have been completely shutout the last several times, but thanks to the other day I’m feeling pretty good about myself.
Yesterday, two of my favorite actresses, Halle Berry and Elle Fanning, stopped by a talk show to promote their latest films. Ever since “The Flintstones” I have always had a huge crush on Halle and over time it has continually gotten bigger. Needless to say I’m a huge fan of her work. The same goes for Elle Fanning. Unlike her sister Dakota I truly believe Elle could be the next great child actor turned adult actress. Whether it’s “We Bought A Zoo,” “Super 8” or “Somewhere,” she knows how to capture her characters perfectly. When I saw both were going to be on the same show I decided to attend despite my recent track record.
3:30 p.m.- Holy crap…did I really arrive this early? Yes, I did. Fortunately for me, there are only three other women waiting “along the barricade.” After texting Mike, he informs me the “Mad Men” party is also happening tonight along with several other events, including “The Voice” happing near Hollywood Blvd. Today, might be a very quiet night here.
It appears tonight’s audience is lining up across the alley due to “The Voice” premiere happing on Hollywood Blvd. This should be interesting.
Over the next few hours, it’s a complete blur. I passed the time talking to the other women waiting and by the time 4:30 arrived, there were now a total of six of us. Weirdly enough, a bunch of paparazzi and videographers are on the opposite side of the alley trying to take pictures along with the audience members waiting. Even the women waiting commented, “We have never seen them do that.” A few more collectors arrive and start to ask, “Who is here?” (I detest when autograph hounds ask this question), but everyone just says Elle Fanning and some “band” (RDGLDGRN- pronounced Red Gold Green).
Somewhere around 5:00ish, Elle arrives and gives us a nice wave after looking at the paparazzi. Despite our pleas, including one really enthusiastic woman, Elle only smiles and waves before heading in. Not ideal, but she has a great reputation so we all stay optimistic. Soon a few more paparazzi arrive on our side.
About 30 minutes later, Halle Berry arrives and the other side (comprised of at least a dozen paparazzi) grab her attention with their yelling. She doesn’t even notice us and only acknowledges the other side. Since I have somewhere to be at 8:00 p.m. this is not looking too good, but I remain optimistic. Everyone on the other side takes off while I try to figure out how to pass the time. I start talking to one of the videographers near me about Halle Berry and we have a great talk until more of his colleagues arrive.
About this time, a few more dealers came out and are standing behind us now. There is now a decent size crowd of about 30ish people waiting for Halle Berry and Elle Fannning. Around 7:08 p.m. Halle heads out and comes straight over to us with security leading the way. One guard calmly comes over ahead everyone else and tells us she will get to us. Halle comes over to the middle of the barricade and starts signing away.
I managed to get two items signed, but when I tried getting a Bond item signed a dealer smacked my hand with their ridiculous board covering my item.
Beyond answering one quick question about Facebook, Halle remained quiet and did the whole line.
Overall, it was quiet a pleasant experience with Halle Berry.
Something is happening behind us. It’s Richard Simmons! All the paps near us start taping while a few random people freak out as they take a picture with Simmons after he saw “Oz.” You can check out the footage here. It was hilarious looking behind us and see this all play out.
A minute later, Elle Fanning enthusiastically waves to us as she walks down the alley. Honestly, Elle is a complete class act. She is taking pictures and signing autographs with everyone.
Even though her publicist is telling her one item each, Elle manages to take her time with everyone.
After a barrage of photos, her publicist points to my magazine with Dakota and I get a beautiful autograph.
Then I managed to get my Blu-ray of “Somewhere” signed (since everyone only has “Super 8” or photos) and Elle continued down the line.
The entire time Elle was laughing and smiling, which made the whole experience even better.
Tonight I walked away with four autographs from two of my favorite actresses. If you haven’t already checked them out, go see “The Call” and “Ginger & Rosa”! Until the next time, happy autograph hunting!
