Ortiz not happy Red Sox offered his autographs for A-Rod’s 660th HR ball

Last Friday, Alex Rodriguez hit his 660th career home run, tying Willie Mays for fourth place on the all-time list. He hit the homer at Fenway Park and the fan who caught the ball, a local man named Mike Shuster, said he wouldn’t give it to A-Rod.

The Yankees tried and failed to get the ball for Rodriguez, and the Red Sox tried to help as well. Roger Rubin of the New York Daily News reports the Red Sox offered Shuster some David Ortiz autographs in exchange for the ball. Shuster apparently declined.

Bruce Jenner, Justin Bieber, Harrison Ford and the Economics of the Celeb Autograph Market

If ever there was a volatile market, it’s celebrity memorabilia. Some days you’re hot — as Jenner Wheaties boxes reportedly were in the wake of the Diane Sawyer interview about his gender transition. Some days you’re cold—as a signed football by Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was at a Chicago auction this spring.

The “Todd Gurley Bill” is now the “Todd Gurley Law.”

The Associated Press reported Friday that Georgia governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 3 — the same number worn by Gurley for the Bulldogs, not coincidentally — on Thursday, making the enticement of student-athletes to break NCAA rules for cash an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison.

Autograph Hounds Make How Much? Inside the Big Business of Celebrity Signatures

“I’ve made several million dollars in this industry,” Autograph Pros. founder Michael Kasmar told ET.

The profitability of the business has led some celebrities to be more hesitant to sign autographs. Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson sent a clear message to those looking to capitalize on her signature through a tweet, asking professional autograph hunters to “stop stalking [her].”
