Box Office Breakdown! American Sniper Shoots It’s Way To 90 Million Dollars! The Wedding Ringer Second! And More!
It seems American Sniper snuck up on everyone, taking the top spot with $90 million this weekend. That impressive amount comes from a wide release expanding to over 3500 theaters since last week where it debuted at number 21. That is one bulls eye for Bradley Cooper!
The Wedding Ringer came in at number two with a modest $21 million. But with a budget of $23 million, this comedy should see a nice profit margin.
Paddington took the number three spot with $19 million. With its budget of $55 million, this little bear has some catching up to do.
Taken 3 nose dived to number four with just $14 million in its second week. Perhaps they should have called it quits after the sequel.
Selma didn’t get much love this MLK weekend, placing at number five with $8.3 million after such a solid opening last week.
The Imitation Game held at number six with another $7.1 million. This film’s Oscar noms came at a perfect time to garner more ticket sales.
Into the Woods got lost at number seven with $6.5 million and a domestic total of $114 million. Not too shabby considering its $50 million budget.
The Hobbit is still battling at number eight with $4.8 million added to its domestic total of $244.5 million.
Unbroken is just that at number nine with $4.2 million. The Oscars may not have shown much love, but audience’s sure did with a domestic total of $108.6 million.
Rounding out the top ten was Black Hat, which opened in dead last with $4 million. Looks like Chris Hemsworth may have the biggest flop of 2015; though he’ll also star in the biggest hit of 2015 with Avengers 2 around the corner.

Next week Strange Magic, The Boy Next Door and Mortdecai open. That’s animation versus sexy thriller versus, comedy? (I’m not really sure what the make of that last one). I’m going to call American Sniper for a second week at number one. Tune in to see if I’m right.
Until then, happy movie going!
