To quote Alicia Keys, this girl is on fire!! I correctly predicted that Bad Grandpa would knock Sandra Bullock out of the top spot. The Johnny Knoxville unscripted, prank out comedy made $32 million in just three days. Not too shabby for a movie’s whose budget was just $15 million.

Gravity finally slipped to the number two spot with $20 million, bringing its domestic total to just shy of $200 million in four weeks of release. Wow!

Captain Phillips stayed the course in the number three spot with another $11.8 million. With a budget of $55 million and a domestic total of $70, Tom Hanks has another certified hit on his hands.

The Counselor failed to make a case opening in the number four spot with just $8 million. Looks like the Star studded cast wasn’t enough to entice movie goers.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is still on the menu in the number five taking in another $6 million. Its domestic total has now reached over $100 million. Never underestimate the power of the animated family genre.

Carrie powered down to the number six spot with just $5.9 in its second week of release. Dear Hollywood, leave the classics alone.

Escape Plan was in solitary confinement snatching up just $4.3 million in the number seven spot. Its domestic total after two weeks in release is now just $17 million. Time to call it quits Sly.

12 Years a Slave expanded to 123 theatres for a limited run and still made an impressive $2.1 million. Word of mouth is all a buzz so look for ticket sales to soar next week when it opens to wide release.

The indie gem Enough Said managed to stay in the top ten at number nine with $1.5 million.

Prisoners rounded out the top ten with another $1 million, bringing its domestic total to $60 million after six weeks in release.

Next week is a tough call. There’s the big budget sci-fi action yarn Ender’s Game, as well as the big buzz indie Dallas Buyer’s Club, and the senior citizen comedy Last Vegas. But, I’m predicting Ender’s Game will take the top spot for a box office total much lower than Summit Entertainment is hoping.

Tune in to see if I’m right!

Until then, happy movie going.
