Box Office Breakdown! The Hobbit Hits! Frozen Is Freezing Out The Competition! Madea Is Meh?

It sure was a slow weekend for ticket sales. The good news, however, is I’m back on top! The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was number one at the box office with $73.6 million.

It was no chilly reception for Frozen either, who took in another $22 million in the number two spot.

Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas came in at number three with $16 million. The Madea franchise is alive and well.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire had some sparks left with $13 million in the number four spot.

Thor: The Dark World is still throwing some punches, taking in $2.7 million at number five.

Out of the Furnace is quickly burning out with $2.3 million at number six and a domestic total of just $9.4 million.

Delivery Man fell to number seven with $1.8 million and $28 million for a domestic total.

Philomena continues to charm her way in the top ten at number eight and $1.7 in limited release.

The Book Thief stole some more hearts at number nine with $1.6 million for this indie’s $14.8 million domestic total.

The Jason Statham penned action drama Homefront rounded out the top ten with $1.6 million. After just three weeks and a domestic gross of $18 million, perhaps Mr. Statham should still to martial arts and leave the touchy feely stuff to the professionals.
