Box Office Breakdown! Exodus Lands At Number One! Hunger Games Drops To Two! Top Five Was Four!

I’m the king of the box office again. Exodus Gods and Kings opened at number one with $24.5 million. It’s a victory for the weekend, but with a budget of $140 million, this biblical epic is way behind in the numbers game.

After four weeks in release The Hunger Games was knocked down a peg to number two with $13.2 million and a domestic total of $277.3 million. Those are some massive numbers, buts its still behind its predecessor’s earnings.

Penguins of Madagascar slipped to number three with $7.3 million and a domestic total of $58.8 million. Not bad for some animated birds, but its bloated budget of $132 million is going to hurt them.

Top Five opened at number four with $7.2 million. The Chris Rock dramedy has gotten great reviews, but I guess they weren’t enough to make his directorial debut a bigger hit.

Big Hero 6 bounced down to number five with $6.1 million. It’s domestic total of $185.3 million is impressive, but overseas ticket sales will ensure this Disney flick as a Big Hero hit.

Interstellar continues to fall, coming in at number six with $5.5 million. It’s domestic total of $166 million is now finally in the red. However its global total of $601.2 million is out of this world.

Horrible Bosses 2 got beat down to number seven with $4.6 million. I’d say hopes of seeing a third installment have been laid off.

Dumb and Dumber To dropped to number eight with $2.7 million and a global total of $127.5 million. This isn’t the comeback for which Jim Carrey was hoping.

The Theory of Everything lost a step and dropped to number nine with $2.5 million and a domestic total of $17.1 million. Profit margins may not be huge, but its award nominations have made up for that.

Rounding out the top ten was Wild, which opened to a slightly wider release and picked up $1.5 million. Reese Witherspoon’s stab at a second Oscar win was showing in only 116 theaters, comparatively.

Next week it’s little orphan Annie versus The Hobbit versus Ben Stiller. It’s a pretty sure bet that The Hobbit will reign supreme. Will it open to numbers greater than its predecessor’s $84 million is the real question. I say nay. Tune in to see if I’m right.
