Box Office Breakdown! Suicide Squad Drops Big But Still Number One! Sausage Party Sizzles! And More!

Suicide Squad killed it again, taking the top spot for the second week in a row with $43.7 million.

Sausage Party slipped in at number two, opening with $33.6 million.

Pete’s Dragon didn’t have much magic, opening at number three with $21.5 million.

Jason Bourne was demoted to number four with $13.6 million.

Bad Moms got detention at number five with $11.4 million.

 

The Secret Life of Pets were disciplined at number six with $8.8 million.

 

Star Trek Beyond sought new life at number seven with $6.8 million.

Florence Foster Jenkins hit a sour note, opening at number eight with $6.5 million.

 

Nine Lives used them all up, dropping to number nine with $3.5 million.

 

Rounding out the top ten was Lights Out with $3.2 million.

Next week it’s the battle of the remake no one wanted (Ben-Hur) versus the animated film no one wanted (Kubo) versus the war “comedy” no one wanted (War Dogs). I think all three films are looking at a $13 million-ish opening with Suicide Squad in that same realm. My disdain for both Miles Teller and Jonah Hill make my decision a purely emotional one, so I’ll go with Ben Hur for the win. Tune in to see if I’m right.
