Erica Meets Captain America Himself Chris Evans! Along With The Cast Of The Winter Soldier! Samuel L. Jackson! Emily VanCamp! Anthony Mackie! Frank Grillo! Autographs! And More!

With all the talk of the Marvel panel at D23 and the Captain America: The Winter Soldier cast attending, it made me think of the Captain America Signing at SDCC. We had a nice photo gallery but The Lovely Erica was nice enough to do a quick recap of the signing at the Marvel booth.

Kicking off summer rather early next year, Marvel will release, Captain America: The Winter Solider in April. The cast is in San Diego to participate in the Marvel panel, but the actual participants are a closely guarded secret.

All weekend long the stunning Marvel booth has teased the movie with glimpses of Cap’s new motorcycle as well as the new costumes.

Mike and I get there very early since scheduling can get pretty tight at Comic Con and we’re hoping to cycle through quickly. So of course, the cast is delayed, right? The booth is set and ready to go, but the cast is about a half hour late. Yikes! I need to get some place pretty quick!

It doesn’t help that one guy ahead of us in line desperately needs to be introduced to soap and/or deodorant. I am actually dry heaving from the fumes and I’m standing about 8 people away. They should have a sniff test to go along with the badge check to make sure you don’t make anyone ill…just saying!

Thankfully the cast arrives before I pass out. As they pass through the trick door – we can see that a good chunk of the cast is here! Chris Evens, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Emily Van Camp, Anthony Mackie and even Samuel L. Jackson who is videoing us as we are taping him. Yeah!!!

The signing starts immediately with Anthony Mackie the first at the table. He’s chatting and personable with the crowd. Right ahead of us in line are some extraordinary Marvel artists, Humberto Ramos and Mark Brooks. Anthony takes a look at Mark’s lanyard which he explains includes different characters that he drew. Anthony takes a good look and kiddingly chides Mark for not including Falcon (Anthony’s character in Captain America 2).

When I get up to Anthony, I mentioned that he was great in Behanding – which gets his attention. Anthony was in a play called a Behanding in Spokane. We chat about the play a bit, but I try to keep this fast as we have a schedule and they have a schedule. Although the cast is running late, they have to end on time since their next stop is Hall H and the Marvel panel.

Emily is friendly and glad to do something very different from her Revenge role.

Frank Grillo is taking in the scene and I ask him if he’s ready to hit the biggest stage in fandom – Hall H. He’s mystified and replies “I thought this was Hall H.” Oh dear. This is the exhibit floor. No one’s prepped him!

I mention his next stop is a room filled with 6500 fans, most of whom have been camped out overnight for a seat. He looks surprised and then looks to Emily for support. I hope he’s good with public speaking…

Chris Evans is next and he is a whole lot more comfortable with the crowd. He was pretty reserved during his first Captain America signing (which was before he even did the movie) and now he’s much more engaged. I squeeze in a quick picture –yeah!

Sebastian Stan is next and we chat briefly about the plan he recently did on Broadway, Picnic. We’re moving pretty fast so I can’t get a good picture of him, but I do clearly remember a scene in Picnic where Sebastian was staring right at me and Elisa (or it felt that way), shirtless and licking his lips. I don’t remember what happened immediately after that…

And rounding out the signing is Samuel L Jackson who is laughing and having a great time.

And that’s the end of the signing! Amazing to see this much of the cast together.

Captain America: The Winter Solider is due out in April 4, 2014
