I’m actually really disappointed in this news. Disney has decided not to move forward with a sequel to Tron: Legacy. The film which was a sequel/reboot of the Tron film from the 1980s, starred Jeff Bridges and Garrett Hedlund.
It grossed over 400 million dollars worldwide, however it wasn’t seen as a blockbuster success and the merchandise didn’t sell as well as Disney would have liked.
Apparently, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde were coming back to star in the film and director Joseph Kosinski was apparently trying to get Jared Leto to star in the sequel.
There’s no official word as to why Disney pulled the plug, but the word is that Disney is smarting from the failure of Tomorrowland. They are apparently focusing on doing live action films based on their rides like Jungle Book and Disney Classics like Maleficent.
This really bums me out, I really liked Tron and thought the sequel was really good!
