MTF Rant! Ewan McGregor Calls Autograph Hunters ‘Parasitical Lowlifes And Wankers’ Plus Has Unkind Words For Star Wars Fans!
Ewan McGregor Calls Autograph Hunters ‘Parasitical Lowlifes’
This is the headline, I got about five calls about today.
I’m really not sure how I feel about all of this. I mean, I love Ewan McGregor. LOVE HIM!
He’s been in some of my favorite films of all time, Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, Velvet Goldmine, Moulin Rouge, Big Fish, etc…
And here’s the thing, Ewan McGregor has been really nice to me. Soooo…..
In the latest issue of Details magazine, Ewan had this to say…
DETAILS: Star Wars fans are notoriously intense. Have you had positive experiences with them?
Ewan McGregor: I don’t have any experience with them. I’ve never been to one of the conventions. The people I meet are the fuckers who want me to sign Star Wars photos so they can sell them on the Internet or the people at premieres who are crushing children against barriers to get me to sign their fucking picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi. They’re not fans—they’re parasitical lowlifes and fucking wankers.
Now, okay… I think I get what he’s trying to say here…. I mean who hasn’t experienced getting smashed into a barricade. I’m 6’4 and I went down like a rag doll at the Malificent premiere when a woman jumped on my back.
But, I don’t think he means that every autograph collector is a “parasitical lowlife.” I distinctly remember this wonderful evening with Ewan was so nice, like so so kind. It was during the promotional trail for “The Impossible” and he stopped after and signed for everyone.
They said, one each and I was like cool. He finished my Trainspotting poster that night if I remember correctly.
I will say though, seeing someone who used to be really nice saying stuff like this, really… Well it makes me sad. Because I like him, and even though he’s always been a little moody about the whole autograph stuff, he’s been very kind to me, and I know he’s been nice to others as well.
But reading that quote in a magazine like Details should give all of us, as collectors pause. I just think it’s a good reminder to respect people and be polite. I think that’s really the name of the game.
I don’t think anyone wants people who are generally nice, turning to the dark side you know?
Just my two cents and mini rant.

I’ve met Ewan twice, and both times he has been awesome. But I have also seen how some people behave, so I get what he means. I think he’s clever at being able to tell a fan from a seller.
Did I ever send you a Ewan write up?
Read the article you nitwit…… He’s calling dealers lowlifes AKA people that sell **** on ebay etc etc. If you are a fan ( true fan) not selling it on ebay actually a freaking fan not someone that is going to toss it on ebay or sell it somewhere then guess what you are not a pathetic lowlife. Sooooo if you sell you are indeed a pathetic lowlife and you know what I agree with him,. Real fans not pathetic lowlifes that oooh lemme make a quick buck off of him. Pay attention to the article next time before going off all bananas….. Real fans he likes people who collect things and watch his films ex- no attention of selling Pathetic lowlifes- Making a quick buck off of him?? God you really are stupid.
If I’m “stupid” then I don’t know what commenting on a article you clearly didn’t read makes you. I wasn’t attacking him, at least I didn’t feel that way.
In fact, I wrote…

I don’t think I really bashed him then did I? Maybe you should read the article and not just the title before calling people names.
