Is Comic Con Ready To Leave San Diego? There Is One Reason CCI Might Stay!

There may be a new wrinkle in the SDCC mix. Every year there are rumors that Comic Con may be moving out of San Diego. Clearly, the convention center has been maxed out, and there needs to be more space.

The convention center’s expansion plans have stalled and if last year is any indication there are just too many people to accommodate.

However, according to San Diego’s Fox 5 news two nearby cities are trying to lure the convention away. Anaheim has been making a play for the con especially.

Now, according to David Glanzer, spokesman for Comic-Con International, the main stumbling block has been keeping hotel room prices affordable.

Room rates are near $161 to $381 a night. Out of 54 hotels in the SDCC hotel block only four have not signed on to keep rates competitive.

“We want to keep it as affordable as we possibly can for attendees, because well, without them we wouldn’t have an event,” Glanzer said.
