Jekyll or Hyde! Wait… Stop… Natalie Portman Was NICE… To Fans?!? Really? No… I Wouldn’t Believe It, If It Didn’t Happen To Me! Autographs!
Jekyll or Hyde time! Now as we are wrapping up 2012, and I still can’t believe it’s happening… Seriously 2013 is literally knocking on our door. It’s crazy. And you know there will be our annual best and worst autograph signers list coming out and sure to top the list will be Ms. Natalie Portman. Even though she hasn’t been out as much in 2012, I’ve still heard about three nasty stories first hand.
I did have a really nice encounter with her once however. I know… Wait… Pick yourself off of the floor.
It was comic con and Natalie Portman was actually doing a signing for a little movie called Hesher. How was this announced? It was written on a cardboard sign at the back of a booth. Seriously.
I got a call from Erica telling me about it and since I was at another signing I sent my friend Scott down there to get me a ticket. How did you get a ticket you may ask? It’s a journey.
After finding the booth Scott told me they were showing the movie’s trailer every hour. Once you watched it, they would pick 15 people out of the crowd and ask them a random question about the trailer. If you get picked and if you get the question right you get a ticket…
Yeah… Easy right?
Scott had to watch the trailer twice and then finally he got picked to answer a question. The guy asked, “What color was the hoodie the guy wore in the trailer?” Scott’s reply, “You need to be more specific, he had a grey hoodie, a red hoodie, and a blue hoodie.” The guys aid, “Here.” and handed Scott a ticket.
Yay!
So, they lined us all up and actually Natalie Portman walked onto the convention floor. I can only imagine what everyone thought when Queen Amidala graced the San Diego Convention Center floor.
You had to actually climb up a set of stairs to the top of a booth and then Natalie Portman was sitting was right there feverishly signing Hesher mini posters.
When it was my turn the security freaked out on me because I had my camera out. LOL… I was like, I’m trying, I can’t turn the damn thing off.
When I went up I said Hi, and I said, I have to tell you, I thought V For Vendetta was amazing, it’s one of my favorite movies. She said, “Thanks for that.” And continued signing. I smiled and was about to turn away, when Natalie Portman looked up again and said, “No really… Thanks!” And she gave me a really nice smile.
Even though it wasn’t the best conversation I’ve had in my life, still… I walked away really happy. A pleasant encounter with Natalie Portman!
Holy Hell!
For this one encounter… Natalie Portman is awarded the Happy Theo Award!

At least she has her good days. I can see where she’s coming from at premieres in the U.S. (where she doesn’t sign), but it’s not helped by the paparazzi constantly following her either.
I’ve heard her racking in countries other than the U.S.. Maybe it’s because there aren’t as many dealers in the UK or Canada?
Ah, if only Buffy herself had a good day and was nice to fans…
Me too Mike. In fact, didn’t we wait in line together? What epic good luck to have seen that little hand written sign. After I got my autograph, I started to walk away and turned back to tell her how much I loved The Other Boleyn Girl. Even with security starting to block me from going back, she made eye contact and shouted “thanks so much” with a smile. What an awesome fluke!
Congrats Mike! But……yet she ONLY signed the item the studio was promoting. She was just doing her “job”. Though she did sign for you can you really count this? I want to hear a story of her signing “outside” an event besides one promoting a movie at Comic Con. But hey, I guess a signature on a Hesher poster is better than nothing! Good deal Mike!
Im seeing the photos and I still dont believe it actually happened.
John, just because she just signed the item of a movie she was promoting… she could’ve been mean and unresponsive then. I’d rather get a signed poster, have some nice words with Ms. Portman and be on my way… as opposed to a stony-faced Portman signing my personal item and not being nice at all.
Mike, Screw everyone… This counts… She never signs…
LOL, hey I’ll take a signed ugly poster by Natalie Portman! It’s the only Portman I’ve been able to get!!
Matt,
She HAS to be nice when they’re promoting the studio’s current project. Under the studio “eyes” and like the press junkets for a movie it’s in their contract. I’m sure Portman would rather be somewhere else than in a crowd of hudreds at a comic book convention. To me she’s just being phoney and not being her true self at these promotional events. BUT…….don’t get me wrong everyone just to get a Portman autograph on anything is a huge deal and still nice to have! It’s a real shame that she acts this way. Probably thanks to the many greedy dealers bugging her all the time to sign their stacks of 20! Lol!. Congrats again Mike. Like you said anything signed is better than nothing!
Oh..and Ace. She has signed in the past.
what happened to theo’s left ear? lol
She really is nice her grandmother lives in cincinnati and is always personable from what I hear she doesn’t like the cameras ( yep they even come to cincinnati) she just wants her private life private when she comes to cincinnati. I think the dealers ruined her sadly……
They HAVE to be nice? Since when? Comic Con is one big, promotional event and Mike, Billy, Erica, and I can attest to some down right nasty behavior by celebrities out on their “official studio promotion”. She was super nice to me too. She could have been indifferent – not mean, and not friendly, but she went out of her way to respond to us both. A Dr. Jekyll/Happy Theo award indeed!
