I was driving in traffic on the 405… That sounds like the start of a bad rock song… “I was driving in traffic on the 405…” When I got a call from Billy Beer. He was waiting for pop superstar Katy Perry. I of course love me some Katy Perry and I raced… Well crawled my way over.
Katy Perry was doing a record release party for her new album, Prism and hopefully, she would be out soon. I grabbed a couple magazines and especially my 2011 tour poster which I love. After running over there, and parking I joined Billy and Chris in line.
There were about 40 people milling about. I saw Will and Frank who were heading over to get some food. I thought… If Frank is getting food, I’ve got a couple hours to wait.
After Billy made the social rounds, he’s a chatty one. He even stopped to talked to a mentally handicapped fan and give him some pointers. It wasn’t cold but it wasn’t warm, and after a half hour… The not cold, not warm has just become cold.
Honestly though, it’s not bad. Talking to Frank, and everyone… It’s okay. I think that there was a memo that told everyone where Katy Perry was. lol… Still it was an organized line, and everyone seemed in good spirits which is always nice.
A giant truck is pulling in and I’m trying to convince Billy Katy Perry is hiding inside. He only half falls for it.
Billy was now in high alert. He was regaling us with stories of his obsession with California Dreams, the Faux Saved By The Bell kids half hour series. In fact, Billy Beer, well… he wants to drink, but he also said he was a huge fan of Dawson’s Creek. There was talk of him digging a moat in his backyard in Michigan and acting out scenes from the series… Either that or my brain is cold and starting to lose function.
I’m going with the former.
The Prism background is driving past us now…
The security is trying to tell us he is going to make us leave. LOL… Oh security, how we laugh at you.
Over the wire we hear that Katy Perry is going to be coming out. Come on Katy!!
10 minutes pass…. 15 minutes pass… Billy starts signing 1990s one hit wonders, it’s really madness. Madness I say!
And then… There she is!
Katy Perry stops the car and is adorable. She basically makes an announcement, “An autograph or a photo. Everyone will get something, you work with me, I’ll work with you!” She was adorable. I can only imagine how tired she must be.
Everyone lines up and Katy Perry takes everyone up one by one. She is adorable. Like, super adorable. Billy was getting nervous.
He was first and he talked to Katy Perry. She signed his photo “To Billy” and was so cute. Honestly, she was over the top nice.
It was my turn and I have my 2011 tour poster. She asks me if I would like it personalized and I said, no that’s fine. I have a couple things personalized already. She says sure and then tells me that they are working on the merchandise now for the tour. Here’s a tip, more lenticular posters! I love those!
And then all 50 or so people lined up and were able to meet Katy Perry. She met with everyone one on one and couldn’t have been nicer. I mean seriously, she gave everyone a moment and it was seriously so gracious of her.
Mad props. Just saying.
And Katy Perry kept her cool with Billy Beer serenaded her with his rendition of Paula Cole’s I Don’t Want To Wait. A moment for sure.
Until next time kids…
