Kiefer Sutherland Says He’s Done Signing Autographs In Public! Say Wha?
Wow, and another one bites the dust.
It’s so interesting that a lot of the really nice guys in Hollywood are calling it quits when it comes to signing for fans.
Angelina Jolie is having security hand pick people to go in the barricades, Dustin Hoffman is getting more difficult, and Johnny Depp who is generally super awesome didn’t sign at the Alice Through The Looking Glass premiere this week.
Now, Kiefer Sutherland one of the really nice guys in Hollywood has posted this on his Facebook page:
That makes me really sad, because I hate seeing nice celebrities (or nice people in general) have to put rules in place like this.
Now, there are two sides to every coin, he is a celebrity and it comes with the territory. It is interesting to see people nowadays coming with stacks and stacks of times as opposed to the general two or three things. And I’m not saying I’m not guilty of bringing a lot of things to different events, while I don’t sell things, honestly I don’t judge people who do.
I think really it has to do with manners and respect. If someone doesn’t mind signing, awesome, but if you’re there with a stack of 50 photos to get done, you know that if you even get 10 it’ll be at the expense, (more than likely) of someone else who is there possibly with just one item.
I can see why a celebrity would get annoyed at this. I would. If I was in his position. I would say line up, one each, and that’s it. Done. This way everyone leaves with something. If I get one thing done, I’m happy for the most part.

Now, I’m not sure if he is just not going to stop signing in general or this is just for his recent concert tour, but either way it does suck for everyone.
So, whether you’re a dealer, a collector, or just a fan… Remember to be respectful of the person who is signing for you because if not, I think we’re all going to see this happen more and more and it will get ruined for everyone.

I honestly think they should do a 1 per person thing so no one is accumulating stuff to sell. At most I have only asked for 2 things at a stage door or something. And when I am helping a friend who signs stuff – ANYONE who comes with a stack you peg them as sellers. Wrong or right. She has stared doing a 1 per person thing so people that bring several need to decide WHICH thing is the most important to them
as for Michelles posts how do they know it’s being sold, I have an actress frind and when she goes to events in LA, instead of signing her full name she does her initials and last name. At the recent Saturn Awards she was approached by several “fans” and she signed that way. The next day on both Ebay and Autograph World Websites the initialed pics were all up for sale. That’s how they know. She also was not charging for her autograph but these people were selling for $45 a pop
The one each rule doesn’t work, because dealers, move down the line and reach over people to get as many as possible. I’ve seen nice celebrities politely say one each and these dealers find a way to get more and ruin it for everyone. I once waited 7 hours for Hugh Jackman – took off of work, was the sixth person to arrive. By the time he came over, the line was 6 people deep. A dealer who showed up 10 minutes before got FIVE signed! I left empty handed. I had ONE item with me too. That system would only work if people acted orderly and respectful, which they don’t. The fans aren’t perfect either, but they’re not desperate to make rent money.
