Manic Mondays! Meeting Comedy Legend Ms. Carol Burnett And Talking About How She Inspired Pinky To Do Stand Up! #rockinglegends
I remember watching Carol Burnett when I was a kid. My grandmother loved her and we used to watch Mama’s Family which spun off the Carol Burnett show all the time. Carol would show up here and there on that series for the first season or so.
Ms. Pinky… The dahling Ms. Pinky… Was out and about this weekend and was able to meet this television legend. Needless to say, I wish I was there if only to watch her pull a Pinky. Even if she didn’t pull a Pinky in real life, in my head she did and trust me it’s hilarious! Like… I’m actually giggling right now thinking about it…. Sigh…
Check out Pinky’s Manic Monday after the jump!

Hello, my lovelies. Pinky Lovejoy here still on a bit of a high from meeting the one and only iconic legend, Carol Burnett. Yes, THE Carol Burnett. Can you believe it? I’m dying! Earlier this year I actually went to an event she was being recognized at, but found out too late that the whole street was closed and there would be no access to even try to see her.
Flash forward to this weekend when she just walked by me in a hotel lobby. How could I not ask for a picture? She was so kind and classy – even as I gushed and told her how amazing she was, she just calmly told her escort to wait a moment, took a picture with me, and listened as I told her the same stuff probably everyone has ever told her – How I used to wait up late and watched her; how incredible she was; that she was wonderful.
At least, that’s what I was trying to say. For all I know, what actually came out was, “Um, Ms. Burnett. Me. Want. Picture.” It probably wasn’t THAT bad, but you never know.
(Editor’s Note: Oh Pinky… We know… We know… 😉 M-)
Big thanks to my friend for encouraging me to ask for the picture; I was thinking of not asking due to the situation we were in at the hotel, but since she was right there I went for it and I’m so glad I did. I mean, how can you walk away from such a legend?!!?
Growing up, I can’t even tell you how much time I spent staying up late to watch the Carol Burnett Show at night. I adored her and everything she was. I loved how she tugged on her left ear every night at the end of the show as a secret “Hello, I love you” gesture to her grandmother (and kind of wished I’d asked her to do it in our picture). She always seemed to be down-to-earth and real and I loved anything she did. Between her and my love for Lucille Ball, it seemed like the funniest women in the world were redheads.
In fact, because of their inspiring comedic performances, I was encouraged to finally break out and try stand up on my own, which I did for several years when I was in college. Sure, I wasn’t the greatest comedian in the world, but I overcame my fear of trying it, and ended up being fairly comfortable on stage. Thank you, comedy legends, for showing people everywhere that women could be funny.
With so many up and coming actors these days, I wish they would take some lessons from the acting legends of our time like Carol Burnett who was happy to greet her fan and gracious about meeting me.
She didn’t shirk away or say she was late. She didn’t hide behind some evil security guard. She was just a regular person and made me feel special for taking a brief moment out of her night to pose with me. Thank you, Carol, for being a class act. I appreciate you.
