One of the highlights of this years SDCC was most assuredly the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. autograph signing at the Marvel booth. Marvel definitely rocked it this year! The awesome thing about this signing is that the entire cast was here! Epic! That’s so rare! I’m talking like 10 people… Damn… that’s an awesome signing!
Erica has done a great recap of the signing, so take a look after the jump!
I really can’t wait for this show and I hear it’s awesome!
By just about any measurement out there, the most anticipated new TV series of the fall is Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. An offshoot of the biggest superhero movie? The latest TV series by Joss Whedon? The return (?) of Agent Coulson? Yeah, I think a few people may tune in on September 24th.
In anticipation, Marvel has brought the entire cast and showrunners down to help kick off the show. In the panel the day before, they screened the pilot in its entirety (missed that!) which got rave reviews.
Today, however, the cast are doing a signing on the massive stage in the Marvel booth. This is a big one as the Marvel team sets up 3 tables for 11 signers – wow!
The signing begins when the magic revolving wall spins to reveal the cast and crew for the show.
While we await our turn on the stage, a bunch of the handlers are standing on the side comparing notes – including one Jennifer Grey. It’s adorable to see how she always supports her man…
The signing begins with Clark Gregg and Joss Whedon. Clark asks if I saw the pilot yesterday and I tell him my sister, standing next to me, saw the pilot, but I missed it. He asks if she’s taunting me with details of the show. I reply that “she’s kept the details to herself since I don’t have Level 7 clearance.”
Joss hears this, turns to me with a smile and says “nice.” Yeah, that’s right! I got a “nice” on my quip from Joss Whedon!
Brett Dalton and Ming-Na Wen are next and puzzling over some instructions. The awesome guy who runs the Marvel booth is getting his Phase 1 Tesseract case signed and asked Ming-Na to draw a “heart on.” Only, with the crowd and music blaring, they didn’t hear “heart on” but something else. Their reaction is priceless!
With a couple of Taylor Swift hand gestures to indicate “heart,” the light bulb goes on and the gracious Ming-Na recovers from her laughing fit and draws a heart above her signature.
Yeah, I have nothing to say to them after that (!), but I do get a heart on my poster from Ming-Na!
Sitting next to her is Jeph Loeb – along time vet of Marvel comics and now the head of Marvel television.
Chloe Bennet, Iain de Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge are next. Each is cheerful and personable. Elizabeth notices I have a mood ring on and we take a moment to discuss my mood which is somewhere between passionate and tense – pretty much describes any signing!
The signing finishes off with more of the brains behind the show – Jeffrey Bell who is long-time Joss partner (Buffy, Angel) and tons of spy cred having also worked on X-Files and Alias.
The last two folks are Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon. I ask Maruissa if she sleeps with her Captain Hammer shirt at night and she and Jed get a good laugh.
Whew! And that’s the signing! The poster looks terrific and Marvel is the ONLY booth that makes sure they have fresh pens for each signing. Since we’re getting up at the crack of dawn for a lottery chance to get into these signings, it’s great that they take the time to make sure the signatures will show on the poster!
The poster looks terrific and I can’t wait to see the show in September!
