With All Hallow’s Eve on the horizon I figured I would look back at meeting none other than Beverly Sutphin herself, Ms. Kathleen Turner. Now, I’ve been a huge fan of Ms. Turner for a long long time, but to be frank Serial Mom is one of my favorite movies of all time. While, it’s not necessarily at “Halloween” film, I figure it qualifies since someone does die with a car, a phone, a giant piece of meat, lol…
The joyous Ms. Pinky from Pretty In Pinky and Scotty also came with me so it was a MTF family affair.

Tonight Ms. Kathleen Turner is doing a rare staged reading of a play she starred in on Broadway. The play of course is The Graduate, and also in the cast is Matthew Rhys from Brothers and Sisters. Pinky, Scotty and I are headed out. I love me some Serial Mom and even though I have met Ms. Turner a few years back, I just got this super rare promo serial box from the video release of Serial Mom that I’ve been looking for forever.
I’m dying to get it signed and when I heard there was a staged reading at a smaller location I just had to go.
8:01 p.m. – We just arrived. Scotty has this super cool litho from Who Framed Roger Rabbit he wanted signed, and Pinky just wants a photo. I have one with Ms. Turner from her book signing but I keep hearing she’s not a “photo fan.”
8:22 p.m. – Honestly, we are just hanging out, nothing terribly exciting. It’s kind of nice though, because we can relax and just chat without the normal pressure of having tons of people around and a barricade.
8:33 p.m. – This local has a strange tide pool. It’s so green it’s borderline gross. Clean the tide pool people!
8:46 p.m. – Serial Mom is one of my all time favorites and I finally uncovered this super rare cereal box promo they did to promote the film when it was released on DVD. At the time I was working in a video store and I saw it and asked for it. I was supposed to get it once the movie was done being promoted, however I didn’t make it that long at the job. I did flirt and kiss ass with the rest of the people that worked there and they saved it for me. However, there was some accident with Coke and two guys wrestling in the back room that destroyed that dream. God bless michigan! Sigh… Finally, I found it online of all places after searching for it… and I mean searching. It was pretty much over 10 years of me scowering he net…
9:03 p.m. – It should be over soon… I didn’t bring anything for Matthew Rhys but I’m hoping to get a pic with him. Oh, and I also have a Serial Mom mini poster as well…
9:11 p.m. -It is such a beautiful night!
9:20 p.m. – Oh, it looks like something is happening… Yep, the play is letting out. We are all getting ready.
9:22 p.m. – There are a lot of older people here, lol… I guess that’s the typical audience for plays anymore in LA!
9:29 p.m. – There she is! Beverly Sutphin herself! We approach and ask her to sign. Pinky asked her for a photo but Kathleen says, “I do not do photos, but I will sign.” Scotty goes first and gets his litho done. Kathleen Turner has a beautiful signature!
I then have my serial box promo out and Kathleen looks at it and is like wow. I told her it was a rare promo, and Kathleen says, “I think I remember that.”
She then signs my mini poster as well. She did ask us not to take photos so alas I have none…
9:33 p.m. – Scotty and I are happy, but Pinky is sad… Sorry darling!
9:35 p.m. – Matthew Rhys is walking out with True Blood star James Frain. We ask them for a photo and are able to get a picture with both of them! So, at least it’s not a total loss for Pinky!
All in all such a fun night, and I’m super happy. I wish every star would have beautiful penmanship!
Until next time kids…
