Meeting A Living Legend! Miss Hannigan Herself Carol Burnett! Karalee Meets The Sketch Comedy Star And She’s Adorable! Autographs! Photos!

It’s always amazing to see living legends being gracious and giving with their time. I know it shouldn’t be a shock but in this hobby you honestly just never know. At the Festival of Books the stupendous Karalee was able to meet one such legend… Ms. Carol Burnett!

I’ve always loved the sound of my parents laughing. Whether it was a private joke between the two of them, a funny recollection from their 40 years of marriage, or a TV show or movie that just tickles them to the point that joyful, amused tears stream from their eyes, there’s nothing like knowing — hearing — happiness.

Growing up, I remember hearing my sweet parents laugh and laugh, and then laugh some more, courtesy of the comedic talents of Carol Burnett. I, of course, loved her as Miss Hannigan in “Annie.” Ear tug and all, Burnett is a legend. I also remember when I learned years (and, sigh, years) ago when I was in high school, that Carol started out as a journalism major at UCLA. That was my focus and, ultimately, my college major as well. Lucky for us, she switched to theater arts and English to become a playwright. She learned she had to take an acting class to enter the playwright program, and well, the rest is entertainment history.

Along with Sir Mike, I recently attended the L.A. Times Festival of Books, where Carol was meeting fans and signing copies of her new book, “Carrie and Me: A Mother-Daughter Love Story.” Upon arriving, Mike and I were catching some shade and charting our game plan, along with Ace and OTG John. As our little group was milling about, we notice Carol is being interviewed right next to us. Wow, really?! This is amazing! All my years of (mostly) honest living is paying off!

OTG John and Ace each have something they’re hoping she’ll autograph. I would just love to get a photo with her. As she’s wrapping up her interview, Ace and OTG John modestly make their way a little closer to her. I follow behind. It’s just the three of us, hoping to catch her eye.

As she steps down, preparing to hop on a golf cart to be whisked to her designated author stage, they kindly ask if she’ll gift them with an autograph. She happily obliges.

Then it’s my turn and I ask if it would be possible to get a quick photo. She smiles and says, “Of course!” Happy (internal) dance! Happy (internal) dance! Mike snaps the photo and then she’s off.

Thank you, Carol! You were so sweet, so generous and truly gave me a moment (and a picture) I will never forget.
