Hello, my lovelies. Pinky Lovejoy here thinking about actors I’ve loved through the years and how fortunate I’ve been to have met so many of them in my lifetime. Recently I was thrilled to meet the one and only Patty Duke Astin. Not only did I love watching Patty perform on “The Patty Duke Show” a million years ago, but I thoroughly enjoyed her book (“Call Me Anna”),
as well as the work of her children, Sean and Mackenzie Astin, Now, after meeting both Sean and Mackenzie (as I had huge crushes on both of them growing up),
So, it should come as no surprise that Patty Duke Astin wasn’t just “braid your hair nice,” she was “take you to the hospital and sit with you a week” nice. Patty had a booth at the Chiller Festival in April, but I never saw her actually sit down at her booth. Instead, she stood so that she could have one-and-one, up-close-and-personal time with each person coming through her line to meet her. In addition to the normal headshots and books, she also sold scripts and various types of memorabilia for really reasonable prices.
If I’d been a collector, I would’ve been in for a treat! Patty took her time with each guest – in fact, it was so much time, it was almost an annoyance to those of us waiting in line – but it was amazing all the same. I was incredibly impressed with how sweet and kind she was and made sure to tell her what a great job she did raising her sons and that they were both very friendly to fans when I finally had my few minutes with her.
She was very welcoming and made me feel like we were old friends. I love celebrities who really value their fans and take the time to speak with them and let them be heard. It was a great example to me and I loved seeing it. Thank you, Patty, for being such a class act. I appreciate it!
