I have to tell you, I loved the original Kick Ass movie. It was such an original take on the Superhero genre and was perfectly cast.
For this weeks Cult Classic Corner, Jack talks about the film right before the sequel drops as well. Nice!
In face, Jack met the full cast at a signing! Say Wha?
Check it out after the jump!
Looks like Will beat me to the punch this week discussing Amber Heard and Jason Sudeikis. Not only did Amber pose for pictures upon arriving, but also actually stayed true to her word and signed autographs after her taping (she only took photos upon her arrival). Still, I usually like to remain topical with my posts and decided to revisit one of the coolest cult classics in recent years, “Kick Ass.”
“Kick Ass” is the story of a nerdy teenager, Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), who decides to become a real life superhero. After his first venture out, Dave is severely beaten, requiring intensive surgery. However, Dave finds a new tolerance for pain and truly becomes “Kick-Ass”. While fighting some bad guys, Dave comes across two other superheroes Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and his daughter, Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz). Together they team up to fight drug lord Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong) and his evil son Chris (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).
“Kick Ass” persists as one of the awesome superhero movies that actually deliver the goods. Hit-Girl is by far the coolest character from the film and this cool cast definitely brings all of these superheroes to life. To say I’m excited about the upcoming sequel is an understatement. After seeing this film, you can understand why fans wanted more of these characters.
Like most people I first heard about “Kick Ass” once I saw the trailers. I later learned the film and graphic novel were written simultaneously by Matthew Vaughn/Jane Goldman and Mark Millar/John Romita Jr. respectively., which is pretty unusual for a comic book movie to be adapted before the book even comes out.
I was fortunate to attend an early screening of the film with most of the cast, courtesy of Hero Complex with Aaron Johnson, Chris Mintz Plasse, Chloe Grace Moretz, Jane Goldman, John Romita Jr. and Clark Duke. Although I was unable to meet anyone at the screening, Hot Topic was scheduled to have a cast signing at their Hollywood/Highland store a week later (prior to the film’s release).
Much like my “Watchmen” signing at the SDCC, you had to buy a t-shirt to attend the signing. Honestly, I had no idea if they would be signing the shirt or if you could get anything else signed. On the day of the signing, it was announced “Kick Ass,” “Hit-Girl” and “Chris” would be signing mini posters for the event. The guy in front of me convinced his girlfriend to smuggle in some official movie posters and they got it signed. The cast was ridiculously friendly and allowed fans to take pics, which was the first I’ve seen at a Hot Topic event (Don’t judge me-they used to have band signings all of the time).
When my turn came up I actually discussed the film and the Hero Complex screening. They all lighted up, especially Aaron and Chloe, who were really excited to meet someone who had seen the film.
As usual, Chris was super friendly and all were complete class acts.
Honestly, they’re some of the nicest people you could meet. It’s always great to meet down to earth people. Until the next time, happy autograph hunting!
