NYCC: Shadowhunters Props and Signing! Cassandra Clare! Kat McNamara! Dom Sherwood!
This year was the first and well, only time ABC Family will come out to play at New York Comic Con. (Next year the network changes its name from ABC Family to Freeform.) They did an amazing job of interacting with the fans so let’s hope Freeform comes back next year! Here’s a look at all things Shadowhunters at the ABC Family booth!
The ABC Family booth was the pit stop for all things Shadowhunters, Pretty Little Liars and Stitchers. I’ll have more on the other shows, but my focus was all about Shadowhunters. Shadowhunters is a new show based on the extremely popular Mortal Instruments books by Cassandra Clare. When Clary Fray’s mother disappears, she steps into the world of angels and demons and discovers her hidden heritage and destiny.
Shadowhunters fight demons so they have lots of cool weapons which ABC Family put on display. At this time, this is a lot cooler for book readers, but if you’re new to the series, trust me, they brought some cool stuff!
Isabelle’s bracelet/whip (the guys were definitely a little afraid when the whip came out on set):
Clary and Jace’s seraph blades:
Shadowhunters also tattoo themselves with runes for protection and extra abilities. Periodically, the booth would apply temporary flash tattoos for fans (in a fun gold color):
They also previewed a lot of production concept art including Jocelyn’s hand-painted tarot cards:
How about a first look at some set locations? Here’s the Hotel Du Mort:
Here’s a closer look at some of the runes and weapons:
And you can’t have a show about demon hunters without some demons…(ewww!):
The big event was, of course, the cast signing! The booth was super organized with a very orderly morning wristband distribution. The signing itself was really smooth with the cast even personalizing and POSING for photos!! What!?!?! No other signing allowed photos with the cast members so hats off to ABC Family for doing that!
Here’s a shot of me with Kat McNamara (Clary Fray) and Isaiah Mustafa (Luke Garroway, Clary’s father-figure/mother’s boyfriend).
Next up was author Cassandra Clare, always very friendly and sporting some fun color highlights:
Next up, the beautiful boys and Shadowhunters fighting buddies: Dominic Sherwood (Jace Wayland) and Matthew Daddario (Alec Lightwood).
The last photo was with Alberto Rosende (Simon, Clary’s best friend), Harry Shum Jr. (Magnus, warlock with a vivid fashion sense and a partiality for glitter) and Emeraude Toubia (Isabelle Lightwood, fierce Shadowhunter with a whip).
I had the good fortune of interviewing these charming folks as well as showrunner Ed Decter and director McG so look for that in the next week! I’ll have news, some fun stories and a clip of the premiere episode.
The first extended look at Shadowhunters will be on December 6th when ABC Family airs Beyond the Shadows: Making the Shadowhunters. Then Shadowhunters premieres on Freeform on January 12th.
Stay tuned!

Hey 🙂 I just wanted to know if it was hard to get a wristband for the signing session ?
They gave it out first thing in the morning last year so it was fine if you were among the first to get in the exhibit hall.
Thank you for answering! I just have one more question if you don’t mind?
Where and when did you have the informations about the wristband?
I’ll tweet out any info I have so follow me and watch for details
