NYSW: The Walking Dead Fan Premiere! Photos! Reunions! Cast baby pictures!
The Big Event for New York Comic Con and New York Super Week was a massive premiere for season 6 of The Walking Dead at Madison Square Garden. 13,000 rain-soaked fans packed The Garden which hosted its first ever TV premiere with a screening of the season premiere, a Q&A with the cast, a game show, a few reunions, a Walking Dead Hall of Fame award and, oh yes, blackmail-worthy baby pictures!
Getting tickets to this event was a feat in and of itself since there were several different contests and sweepstakes running. Luckily I got a winning ticket and joined the large throng of people headed into the ginormous premiere.
There were a few walkers among us…
In the 100 level concourse, they had several props and costumes from the show.
We took our seats which weren’t exactly close, but the enormous screens helped. The seats at the Garden are quite cushy, but the leg room is atrocious.
Our host for the event was Yvette Nicole Brown who was fun, sassy, lively and, best of all, not inserting herself into every single comment or question. She was a great host for the night!
The creatives came out to kick things off. They thanked the fans and were very excited to be the first TV premiere at MSG.
The fans weren’t the only people at the premiere.AMC also flew up 150 crew members to join the festivities.
Next, they showed the premiere episode which just aired on Sunday. I don’t need to write about that since the ratings say most of you saw it already! Then it was time to bring out the cast for the Q&A. The core 13 cast members all took the stage — somewhat unrecognizable in their red carpet looks. Well, Josh has to sport Eugene’s mullet so he’s pretty recognizable. And Norman came charging up on a chopper so, as usual, he had the best entrance.
Yvette asked questions of each person about where their character was headed for the new season.
And, for fun, she shared a few baby pics of the actors including Andrew Lincoln…
…a very blond Norman…
…and a very serious Steven Yeun.
Then the cast gathered for a little Family Feud-type fun. Michael Cudlitz, in a full kilt, jokingly joined the ladies team since they were short a person.
But they evened up the numbers when Emily Kinney, back from the dead, joined the ladies’ team.
The topics were voted on by The Walking Dead Fans and, well, the fellas won the contest.
After the game show, there was a surprise appearance by Jon Bernthal. Before Jon could take two steps on stage, Andrew Lincoln ran out of his chair to hug him and basically the cast spilled out to swamp the guy. Lovely to see how close they all are and what a genuine surprise it was for them.
They awarded the first ever The Walking Dead Hall of Fame award to Scott Wilson who was interrupted by a taped message from David Morrissey who’s in England doing a play.
The newest cast members joined the panel with a quick question for each of them.
Then Michael Rooker popped by for the last reunion of the night.
Then the cast gathered for a giant selfie which capped off a fun night!
Kudos to AMC for hosting this party and bringing in so many fans for a fun evening!
Stay tuned!
