I’ve been in a Moulin Rouge mood as of late. In fact, I was just about to watch it last night when all the power went out. There was an explosion and almost 10,000 people were without power. Doh! I wasn’t alone I guess.
But it did leave me with Moulin Rouge on the mind and so, I thought what a perfect Throwback Thurs! Nicole Kidman!
Check it out below!
I can not tell you how much I love Nicole Kidman… In fact, I would say she’s probably my #1 most wanted photo op even over Sarah Michele Gellar… Yep, she ranks above Buffy. LOL.. I’ve loved so much of her work, Days of Thunder, Practical Magic, Moulin Rouge (swoon), The Others, I can go on and on and on and on truthfully, I think I have so much crap for her to sign it’s ridiculous…
When I saw that Nicole Kidman was doing a rare Q and A for her movie The Paperboy I jumped at the chance to go. In fact I was looking forward to it for what seemed like ever.
Scotty couldn’t go and so the wonderful Ms. Pinky joined me even though I got calls from so many people. LOL…
The Paperboy is an interesting film, it is just not for everyone. That’s for certain. Zac Efron plays Jack Jansen, he’s a semi aimless kid trying to find his way. When his brother comes into town to try and free a convicted murderer chaos ensues. Nicole Kidman plays Charlotte, she is in love with her prison boyfriend played by John Cusack. Matthew McConaughey is Jack’s brother and he fights and works to try and free John Cusack.
Now Charlotte is a very free person, sexually, emotionally, and Jack immediately falls in love with her. However, she remains unattainable and the moment with John Cusack gets free from prison… Well, let’s just say everything goes to hell, Zac Efron is depressed, Matthew McConaughey ends up ass up in a hotel room after getting… well… You get the idea.
The Paperboy is not a movie that’s easy to watch, and director/writer Lee Daniels isn’t a subtle guy. There are things that are very gratuitous like the above mentioned scene with Matthew McConaughey, watching an alligator getting gutted… It’s pretty violent.
Nicole Kidman, however is amazing. She is one of the rare actresses working today who take risks with her work. She just doesn’t do big budget movies, but small indie character films. That’s something I really respect. You don’t see that very often and Nicole challenges herself constantly.
After the screening there was a Q and A with Nicole Kidman and Lee Daniels.
Nicole was lovely. They talked about the challenges working on the film. Nicole talked about her character work and the heat where they shot the film.
Lee Daniels looked like he just came out of the gym, lol… But you could tell how much he liked working with Nicole. He said however, that she was not the first choice for the role and neither was Zac Efron.
Nicole said that they never rehearsed the scene where she sees John Cusack for the first time and in fact that was one of the first days of the shoot.
They also talked about the much discussed urination scene and how that was the second day or so of shooting.
Then they opened up the floor for questions. So many questions at these events are interesting to say the least.
The first question was about the music in the film, and I think that Lee Daniels talked about the casting process.
What I was really there for was to try and meet the one and only Ms. Nicole Kidman however. Nicole said goodbye to Lee Daniels and then stopped to take photos and sign autographs for everyone. I was dying. She signed a magazine for a friend and then she signed my Practical Magic UK Quad mini poster.
I also have the “V” magazine I had talked about earlier on Mike The Fanboy. Nicole took a photo with Pinky
and then saw he “V” Magazine and said, “Now that’s an odd one to get signed!” I was like… Um… It’s your latest magazine cover so I’m not sure why it’s odd, but she even drew a heart on it! I was so happy!
Then… I looked up and I think she could tell I was about to pass out and I asked for a photo. She said, “sure” and bent down and did a photo with me.
It’s not the best, but fuck it… This is a photo with Nicole Kidman! I was flying high! FLYING HIGH!
Such a wonderful way to end 2012! I’ve been wanting a photo with Nicole Kidman forever! I’m so glad that Nicole Kidman took to the time to greet fans, it just makes me love her more!
Until next time kids…
