The 2016 Oscar Nominations! Surprises! Snubs! And More! Tom Hardy! Jennifer Lawrence? No Ridley Scott?!

It’s as every other major award nomination has predicted… This year in film is all over the place.

Getting the most nominations was The Revenant and let’s be honest, best actor is Leo’s to lose. But seeing Tom Hardy get some love in the supporting category was awesome!

But Jennifer Lawrence for Joy? The film’s only nod was for best actress and come on, we’ve seen the same performance from Lawrence before and the film wasn’t David O. Russell’s best work by far.

The biggest shock for me was Ridley Scott getting shut out of best director. He seemed like a lock and it’s a little crazy that he’s never won before.

Jane Fonda got nothing for Youth, Steven Spielberg was shut out of the directing race for Bridge of Spies, and no best actor nomination for Johnny Depp in Black Mass or Will Smith in Concussion!

Straight Outta Compton didn’t score a best picture nomination either.

And it’s a crime not to nominate Quentin Tarantino for best screenplay at least.

Carol seemed like a lock for a best picture nod and it was left in the cold but Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara both got their nods in the best actress and supporting categories.

Also overlooked Steve Carell from Spotlight, Idris Elba from Beasts of No Nation, Helen Mirren in Trumbo, Aaron Sorkin for best screenplay for Jobs, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens in anything but the technical categories.
