Red Hot Chili Peppers Book Signing at the Barnes and Noble in Los Angeles

I’m up, I’m up… and out the door. Today is the official Red Hot Chili Peppers book signing. The only one in the world, or so I’m told. Anyway, three members of the band, Flea, Anthony Kiedis, and Chad Smith are here signing their memoirs… So, I’m at the Grove in Los Angeles with a bunch of other devotees waiting to get my book signed. I have always wanted to meet the band, so I’m looking forward to it, especially since I head Anthony Kiedis isn’t the nicest guy in the world… so… off we go…

10:31 a.m. – I’m here… at the Grove and hanging out… I have a special wristband so I’m one of the first 50 people in line… which is cool because there are about 300 people behind me… and I just showed up, lol…

10:41 a.m. – The one thing I have about Barnes and Noble, and Borders and signings like this is that you can’t bring anything of your own in. I think that sucks, I understand why to a certain extent, but come on… really?

10:55 a.m. – They said they are going to take the line inside at around 11:00 a.m. uh… it’s almost 11 now… doh!

11:03 a.m. – A girl in front of me has hearts tattooed on the side of her face dripping down from here ear… That is a commitment…

11:09 a.m. – I have a couple tats myself… but not on my face… lol… I wonder what color Flea’s hair is going to be? Wow, that’s a random statement…

11:13 a.m. – This is the first time the Red Hot Chili Peppers have done a signing like this… I keep getting told how special this is. Still I can’t shake the feeling that it’s all to sell the 600 or so books they have. Still, it’s all good.

11:15 a.m. – Okay… 11:15 and we are still outside. I don’t understand why they have lined us up all the way down the mall… They could have just put us in the actual line. It’s fairly organized though… For a signing… lol… usually it’s total chaos!

11:23 a.m. – I’m looking at the crowd and everyone looks really sleepy… lol… I think people got here at the crack of dawn… I just waltzed over with my first 50 people wristband… lol… don’t worry next time I’ll be in the long line in the back… lol…

11:32 a.m. – The Red Hot Chili Peppers are doing an interview with Extra on the other side of the mall before the book signing I’m being told.

11:35 a.m. – Oh… we’re going in…

11:37 a.m. – That was actually orderly! Lol… and it’s crazy I’m so close to the front!

11:43 a.m. – I kinda expected a more rowdy crowd; I know it’s an afternoon signing, but still I’m used to people going nuts! Especially for a band with this kind of following.

11:49 a.m. – So, Anthony Kiedis, Flea and Chad Smith will be here at noon I’m told… We keep getting lectured on what page they are going to sign on… sigh…

11:54 a.m. – The Barnes and Noble staff just told me that silver pens won’t show up on the red inside page. Now, I’m cool and all, but don’t lecture me on silver pens, I know about silver pens! Lol… Sigh…

11:56 a.m. – It’s getting close…

12:03 p.m. – Here they are… Flea and Chad Smith just walked in…

12:04 p.m. – And now here’s… Anthony Kiedis… I hate the mustache by the way…

12:09 p.m. – Wow, they sat down and just started signing… no press photos… nothing… I have never seen that before…

12:11 p.m. – We’re moving right along… Flea is really intent on signing and it seems like Chad Smith is the most talkative…

12:13 p.m. – We are being warned no cameras when we get up there… man oh man…

12:14 p.m. – Still amazed they started on time. I figured I would be here for at least a half hour before they got started…

12:16 p.m. – Okay, I’m getting ready… I see Chad Smith and say, thanks for doing this. He said, and I’m quoting here…”This is rare, we never do this.” I was like… okay… What to say to that… Flea didn’t say much, and all Anthony said was thanks. And I’m done… It’s not like I expected tea and coffee… but this was more of an assembly line signing than I have seen in the past. Still it was cool to meet the band, if that’s really a meeting… lol… The books look great though… And I love mine signed on the red page! LOL…
