Scream Queens Season 1 Episode 5 Review And Recap! Pumpkin Patch!

Chanel plans her Pumpkin Patch fundraiser for Black Hairy Tongue Disease with artisanal white sparkly pumpkins, ice sculptures of demonic cherubs peeing vodka and redbull, and of course we can’t forget about awesome maze knee deep in snow drifts; the exact replica from the “Shinning”. The concert hits a road block when Chanel #5 fails to reunite Led Zeppelin. After throwing a fit about the dead rock star failing to attend her party, Chanel gets distracted by this year’s Halloween costumes; wives of fallen Presidents. Chanel #5 has her own meltdown after being forced to dress up as Mary Todd Lincoln. Her threats to leave the house backfire when Chanel calls out her bluff. Hester is more than happy to show her the door.

Dean Munsch gathers both houses who are allegedly targeted by the killer Red Devil to announce that she is closing down the campus; Halloween is canceled. Both parties are furious about missing out on the festivities. Even Jennifer, the in house candle blogger, protests this decision since Halloween is the biggest day for candles. Meanwhile, Grace is the only one concerned with Zayday’s disappearance. Chad hushes the room only to give an “inspirationally” confused speech. His passionate talk contained a few obvious truths, but he failed to shine any light onto the current matter. Enraged by Dean Munsch’s decision, Chanel takes the matter into her own hands. She emails the entire student body, inviting them to her party starting immediately after Halloween; “Chanel Oberlin is above the law.”

In the kitchen, Chanel #5 bakes angry cookies for the trick or treaters. Angry cookies are stuffed with rage and sprinkled with toenails. Yum! She is furious about Chanel constantly stealing her fashion trends. Hester walks in and questions her misdirected anger. She admits to being a double agent and convinces Chanel #5 to take her revenge out on Chanel instead of the poor neighborhood kids.

They visit Jennifer to make her part of Operation “Dethrone Chanel”. We find out that candles aren’t her only out of control obsession. Jennifer not only maintains an extensive ant farm, but also channels her inner ant. Hester reveals her plans and promises Jennifer an exciting job as the treasurer in their new order. Even though she hesitates at first, she gives in after getting bribed by Chanel’s “used” Diptyque candles.

You forget they are in school half the time. It’s almost weird to see them in class. Chanel has her own “Asian” to aid her during tests; not for everything, just math and science. Not pleased with her attitude, the professor was just about to take her to Dean Munsch; but for his delight, detectives crash the class to arrest Chanel for the murder of Ms. Agatha Bean. Her nerves got her burping uncontrollably, but Chanel was happy with her choice of outfit.

Grace and Pete interrupt the Kappa sisters’ fake lunch. After Chanel’s arrest, Chanel #3 is in charge of the Kappa house. Grace strikes out again trying to get help from the girls to find Zayday. Hester suggests Zayday should be able to escape the killer herself to prove her worth to run for the Kappa house presidency. Not having any luck, Grace moves onto her last resort, her dad. Unfortunately, she walks in on him and Gigi in a 90s bedroom escapade. Apparently, it all started with a simple salad date. Wes and Gigi agree to join in on their search for Zayday. Grace struggles seeing her dad finally moving on with his love life after her mom’s death.

Inside prison, Chanel makes a few interesting friends. She even meets one of her biggest Instagram fans. Her dad refuses to post bail since he can’t afford bad press at the moment. It doesn’t take too long for Chanel to declare them as her new besties. At the same instance, she gets bailed out; “Later losers.” Well that didn’t last a second. Chanel #3 bails her out. She lies to her dad about expensive text books to get the bail money. Right out of jail, Chanel craves cotton with Wendy’s barbeque sauce.

Meanwhile, Zayday wakes up in a cushioned ditch. We finally get a peek at the Red Devil’s layer; definitely the place where he stitches himself up. Oddly, he brings Zayday a puppy. Is he trying to suffocate her with furry cuteness?

Back on campus, Dean Munsch and Denise swap stories about their feline adventures. Turns out, they both schooled Chad Radwell. Wow, that boy really gets around. Their girl talk gets interrupted. Yup, you guessed it, it’s Grace. This girl is crashing everyone’s good time today. She asks for their help, but according to Dean Munsch, proper authorities are already on the case. Of course she was talking about Denise. Gigi is not interested in the search, but joins in because of Wes. Still convinced that Zayday is the killer, Denise is not worried about her safety. However, she is determined to find her. Dean Munsch gets another unpleasant surprise when Gigi and Wes come out officially as a couple. Snap!

Chanel #5 dresses up as Jackie Kennedy in Chanel’s absence. Unluckily, Chanel catches her in her closet and howls at her. Chanel confronts Chanel #5 about her snitching to the cops. Chanel #5’s day just went from bad to worse. Apparently, Hester and Jennifer convinced Chanel that Chanel #5 is behind the arrest. As punishment, Chanel makes her light up all the Jack o lanterns in the Pumpkin Patch Halloween night. Never thought I’d see the day when “Dora the Explorer” is used to threaten someone to put their life at risk.

Armed with her two favorite brothers, Chanel #5 starts lighting up the Jack o lanterns. It doesn’t take too long for the Red Devil to make an appearance. They all scram into the snowy maze. Frustrated with having to share Chanel #5, the two brothers pick this exact moment to make her decide between them; “Pick the side of the Eiffel tower.” I guess that’s one way to make your decision. Without much thought, Chanel #5 picks Rodger. They try walking backwards in the snow to mislead the killer, but this was one thing Rodger’s brother couldn’t dodge. Dodger fall victim to the Red Devil’s chainsaw, while Chanel #5 and Rodger escapes out of the maze.

In an attempt to find Zayday, Grace maps out a plan to cover all possible grounds. However, Gigi’s “surprising” knowledge of the haunted house on shady lane gave them means to narrow down the search. Luckily, Grace comes up with a more efficient idea; track Zayday’s phone to find her location. Grace gets into her account quite easily; Zayday sure loves her Oakland Nachos. Just like that, they found the killer’s layer.

After finding the hide out, the gang splits to cover more ground. Denise and Gigi search one side while Grace, Wes and Pete cover the rest. Grace walks right into the Red Devil’s sewing room. They see a table set with Oakland nachos and wine. She comes across the trap door on the floor, but they find it empty. Zayday is gone.

Meanwhile, Gigi and Denise walk into a surgical room; “It smells like booty in here”. Speaking of booty, Denise has her own issues dealing with gaseous fluctuations. Suddenly, the lights go off. Armed with taser guns, the ladies try to keep their cool. Denise tase Gigi accidently, but Gigi gets the Red Devil right on time to save Denise. Thrilled with their capture, Denise runs off to grab the rest of the gang. They come back to find Gigi by herself. The Red Devil knocked her out and escaped through the windows. Her act of valor helps Grace to accept Gigi into the family. Not finding Zayday at the residence, Denise’s suspicions about her being the killer is stronger than ever.

Taking advantage of Zayday’s absence, Chanel calls for an impromptu election. Feeling down about the party turning into a murder scene, she is using the election as her “pick me up”. Just when they were about to vote with white and black marbles, Zayday walks in to surprise them all. Hester with her sick obsessions wants to know every detail about Zayday’s kidnapping and escape. Zayday explains how she was stuck in the Red Devil’s pit without any hope. Soon she found that the Red Devil is actually in love with her. That explains the Oakland nachos and wine. Zayday uses his distraction to her advantage. She pins him to the table with a fork and escapes his creepy layer. Unimpressed by her elaborate story, Chanel pushes for the vote. They all finally vote with another surprise visit; Grace rushes in just in time for the vote.

The episode ends with Gigi walking on campus all by herself. The Red Devil follows her. Is this her turn? Nope, it turns out she knows the Red Devil; “He’s gotta go, you understand me?” Seems like she is actually in charge. This 90s crazy chick is full of chilling surprises. I guess we’ll have to wait until next week to see who won the election and who will be the next victim.
