Once upon a time in a magical land by the sea called San Diego (meaning Whale’s Vagina but we’re keeping this P.C.) there occurred a magical event that realms from around the world sent representatives to attend. Some were there for glory, some to meet the Lords and Ladies they admired, some to watch the spectacles this magical land held in their entertainment arena known as the San Diego Convention Center.
Lord Michael Fanboy attended along with the Sudden Lady Susan and a Strumpet who is quite Novel. They took their coach on a Wednesday to partake of the pre-festivies festivities. Alas, it seemed others had the same idea:
Lord Michael Fanboy was unhappy:
However the Sudden Lady Susan provided an exceptional place to rest his weary head:
Soon, however, they received their admission passes – or badges as this realm calls them:
And were ready to divide and conquer.
This story is about the little Novel Strumpet and her adventures amongst the strange beasts and creatures, watching different spectacles and even getting the signatures of Lords and Ladies she admires. Quite an accomplishment for a Strumpet.
She tried her hand at luck and spun a magical wheel provided by the Masters HarperCollins and won:
She also met Messrs Simon & Schuster:
Along with a Random House and saw Penguins.
Thankfully she did not have to take local carriages for they were not written in a tongue she knew:
And then there were the bizarre sites she beheld….like mechanical beasts:
Large furry creatures:
Headless men:
Strange creatures from sandy climes:
Living produce:
Whatever these are:
Pirates and Ladies made of Iron:
Wizards in grey
Beings of Extermination:
And so much more.
There was a house made of tiny little bricks:
and she found herself drawn to one of the occupants:
Alas it was not meant to be 🙁
There were some who were so excited for the tournaments and festivities they camped out:
She decided to try and fit in by wearing disguises a couple of days:
She witnessed the birth of a monster:
And Master Thomas Willeford meeting a young apprentice:
Being a rare peasant Strumpet who could read she was quite excited to meet some scribes:
Lady Marissa Meyer:
Madame Veronica Roth:
and Master Jason M. Hough:
And attained the signatures of scribes Tom King and Joe Benitez:
However her most exciting moments were being in the presence of a Knight and Lady whose story she had begun following 20 years ago:
She cried tears of joy at the sight of Sir Mulder and Lady Scully together along with the Wizard Carter:
and the members of their Rectangular Table:
She even attained the signatures of the Lady, Wizard, Mad Jester Haglund, and scribe Joe Harris:
There was another arena for more intimate entertainments. There, storytellers interacted on a more intimate level with the attendees. We had minstrels Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue regale us with the tales of a man named Sherlock and his confidante Watson:
There were scary storytellers who told us of the frightening “Hannibal”. There were thespians Hugh Dancy and Aaron Abrams, a director of tales David Slade and the troupe leader Bryan Fuller:
She even spotted the lovely Enchantress Evageline Lilly:
There were feasts of words given by the Captain America troupe:
and even Guardians of the Galaxy:
There were so many more sites and tales to tell, but for now this finishes the Strumpet’s saga.
Ok, ok, ok. I can’t tease you with the Press Conference photos so here are some highlights from them:
Captain America: Winter Soldier
About the Cap being the last “apple pie” and wholesome super hero
Chris Evans: “To be candid that’s kind of the hurdle with Captain America is that his nature is to put himself last, to take everyone else’s conflict and put it on his back…”
About bringing Cap up to speed with modern world:
Chris Evans “Sure, sure…I think you get a little tired of every joke being ‘What’s the internet?’ He gets it…you can’t keep playing that one note…we’re past that, he’s up to speed, he knows how things work, he has a cell phone…we’re trying to find humor in other places.”
About the roles of female characters in these more modern superhero movies Scarlet Johanssen : “Joss (Whedon) really set the bar when it comes to celebrating these female characters that are usually…bookends…he was a pioneer in fleshing them out ( like Black Widow) to be a character who could get punched in the face and could deliver a blow…”
About Falcon being in the film and will we get more Falcon in the future: Anthony Mackie “You can’t get enough Falcon…(laughs)…”
Joe/Anthony Russo –I can’t remember which one!!!!: “…Cant’ tell you exactly how much he’s in but … Cap is looking for a friend [because] in the modern world he’s lost everyone and everything he knew…and…Falcon could be that guy.”
Falcon being in the next Avengers:
Anthony Mackie: “…If the Falcon is added to the Avengers world…I’m looking for the opportunity to take down Iron Man so I’ll be the only flying Avenger!” he he he
Guardians of the Galaxy:
About getting in shape:
Chris Pratt: “…I cried about 40 lbs off and the rest was being hungry and running a lot…”
Is it intimidating joining the Marvel Universe?
Zoe Saldana “I’d be cautious to use the word intimidated…I feel very honored…(powers are different) and if we were up against Captain America or Thor I’d totally kick his ass.”
About if anyone was hurt during shooting the film:
Zoe Saldana “Well we still have about 85% of the film left to shoot…I’m sure there will be a lot of soreness…” (They’ve just started filming)
When asked to talk a bit about their characters:
Djimon Hounsou “I have a four-year-old son…who looks up to superheroes…from Spiderman to Batman to Iron Man…one day he looks up at me and says ‘Papa I want to be light skinned so I can be Spiderman”…that was a shocker to me…I’m excited to be part of a Marvel Universe….that can possibly provide that diversity…”
Chris Pratt: “…My character has slept with a lot of weird aliens…that was pretty wonderful…”
About tying in to the other Marvel movies: James Gunn (Director) “Well we have Thanos…we’re connected to the rest of the Marvel Universe because of 3 seconds at the end of ‘The Avengers’”
