Silicon Valley, the new HBO series that finished it’s first season this year received an Emmy nomination for best comedy series! The show is about a group of guys working at a start up and trying to get their business off the ground.
Suddenly Susan and I were treated to a wonderful q and a with reception with the cast including creator Mike Judge, Thomas Middleditch, Josh Brener, Martin Starr, Kumail Nanjiani and Zach Woods. Sadly, T.J. Miller wasn’t able to attend.
The q and a was fun and lively.
Mike Judge said, “To me it’s like, making it feel as real as possible. That kind of portrayal of nerds is that they are super intelligent and super successful.” He went on to say, “Making it as real as possible is what makes it work.”
“We were shooting episodes five and six and we had a couple days to work with Chris Welch left when he heard he passed away.” Judge said. “We had a couple days to work with him left, there was a scene in episode six that we had to replace.”
“Chris was amazing to watch and it was such a unique interpretation of that character.” Said Judge.
The question of where they want their character to go was brought up and each member of the cast had a great response.
“I would like Jared to fall in love with someone who never finds out.” said Zach Woods. “I think if Jared ever looked his feelings for Richard square in the face he would have a stroke.”
“With Richard, he isn’t as strange as Peter Gregory. Getting success in season 1 is part of that journey. Hopefully some physical comedy bits and I’ll be square.” Thomas Middleditch said.
“Denish wants to be cool and wants to be in power so bad. We’re going to be hiring people now and I want an army to go against Gilfoy!” Said Kumail Nanjiani. “I would love to have a scene where we interview candidates together.”
“You find out that Satanism is a facade to keep people away. Gilfoy’s actually a Christian!” Joked Martin Starr. “Clearly my relationship with my girlfriend is a real love story. We’ll have kids, you know…”
“I think we’re on a calendar year cycle, 10 new episodes like Game of Thrones, and we’ll be on next year.” Said Mike Judge.
The panel was over and it wasn’t madness getting to the front at all. The cast was super nice and hung out with everyone.
Martin Starr was jazzed to see my Party Down mini poster and said that he was going to stand on the stage so our photo would look funny.
Each person in the cast was so nice and creator Mike Judge was very gracious and accommodating as well.
It was a really fun night and it’s always awesome to hang out with Suddenly Susan!
