Big Mike! He’s back kids! I always enjoy reading Mike’s reports, and God help him but he has the best name… I had to say it…. Well… Write it I suppose… Anyway, today Mike is sharing an awesome night he shared with none other than Juliet Landau from Buffy The Vampire Slayer! Mike had the good fortune of christening the New Year with the star herself!

My New Year’s Eve With Drusilla
What can I say about the end of 2011? It went out with quite an autograph whimper. Four or five straight fails to end the year was nothing to write home about. I don’t even remember whom the fails were. (One was Sarah Michelle Gellar.) With my autograph bag hung up for the upcoming New Year’s fails, my honey and I decided to check out a play at the Crown City Theatre in North Hollywood called “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea”. (Extended through early March!)
It’s an intense quick two-act play starring “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alum Juliet Landau and Matthew J. Williamson. We were lucky enough to check out the play about a month earlier and were blown away. Juliet played Drusilla on “Buffy” and “Angel” and kicked ass on that show. Now I’m sitting back and watching her act live. It’s an awesome time. She plays one of New York’s outcasts and instead of a British accent she sports a Brooklyn accent and you get to see her in her underwear! This can be a little awkward when you’re in an intimate theatre like the one we were in and you’re doing your best to show you’re making every effort to make eye contact. A far cry from when I was a teenage hormone dreaming of a good spot on a bench at the mall outside of Victoria’s Secret. The play goes smoothly and we enjoy it even more this time because we know when the tension is going to be turned up and enjoy the gasps of the fellow audience members experiencing it for the first time. It makes me want to see more plays. It’s also a nice way to end the year.
When we arrived we were given a copy of Juliet’s documentary that she filmed on actor Gary Oldman’s music video making, as well as some champagne and yummy chocolates by Juliet’s beau, Dev. We’ve met him a couple of times before and he’s always treated us like VIP’s. We like him a lot. We strike up a conversation after the play about film, acting, and Oscars season and I’m almost a little embarrassed when asked about the latest movie I’ve seen and it was “Harold & Kumar’s Very 3-D Christmas”. (The best of the three!) Luckily Juliet emerges and my tardiness regarding seeing the nominated films is curbed for now. She looks great for someone who just gave her all on stage in front of a capacity crowd. We are always amazed when we’re in the presence of someone we used to watch on TV for so long and they treat us like one of the gang. It’s New Year’s Eve and we both know they’ve got a plethora of parties they could choose to go to, but Juliet is simply chill with hanging with some of her friends and fans.
This is really awesome! We’re spending New Year’s with the woman who played Drusilla! Most of the Buffy people have been kind to us, but this is quite an extraordinary evening. I almost felt like I was imposing by having her sign our newly acquired DVD’s of her documentary, but the opportunity was offered to us and we were happy to have them. This was one of the few times where I preferred a personalized autograph and will cherish this one for a long time. I wish I could remember what we discussed with Juliet but I was so excited that we were having a conversation with her I forgot what we talked about. It was that awesome.
She even gave me a hug and peck on the cheek to end the evening and it made my heart drop. I imagine that’s the feeling most girls get when I hug and kiss them, but this time the tables have turned and it’s just as invigorating for me as it must be for the legions of hotties I’ve blessed with my embraces. It was one of the coolest New Year’s Eves I’ve ever experienced. We kept thinking Juliet will only have time to just say “Hello” and “Thanks” and have to be on her way, but she was having such a nice evening with all of us we got to count down the new year with someone from one of our favorite TV shows ever. What actress is that freaking cool to her fans?!?
This town called Hollywood is filled with some of the society’s worst kinds of people and to be treated like royalty by such a talented woman and her honey bunch is truly a “blessing” and lesson in humbleness. I hope others can raise their level of generosity and coolness to Juliet Landau’s some day. In the meantime, see out in the autograph lines and may your pens never dry out. (Unless you’re cutting in front of me, then you can go H-E-double hockey sticks! (hell!) .
