Strawberry Shortcake has been around since I was… Cough, Cough.. A young child. Very young… Two apples high young. And when I saw that a new version of the iconic character was hitting DVD I knew there was one person who would love to give it a spin.
Ryan is a school teacher and he’s always looking for new films and animated stories that can enhance the classroom experience and help illustrate lessons for children. What better way to do that than with characters, children know and trust.

Strawberry Shortcake has been around since the mid-1980s. My sister used to have the dolls and I will never forget them because the house smelled like strawberries and blueberries every time she played with them.
As with everything, Strawberry Shortcake is back with a new adventure titled, “Strawberry Shortcake Berry Bitty Mysteries.” There are three mysteries or short episodes including in this dvd but one was clearly my favorite.
In this new Strawberry Shortcake story, Strawberry along with her friends Blueberry Muffin, Raspberry Torte, Orange Blossom and Lemon Meringue all get together to paint each other’s nails and do each other hair. Suddenly, the power goes out and each one has to face their own fears.
There is a loud noise and the girls get terrified. Strawberry wants to go out and see what the noise is but Raspberry Torte is convinced it’s some horrible creature and gets all the girls riled up. They are all so frightened, except for Strawberry.
The thing I love about cartoons like this, is that there is always a lesson to be learned. Here, it’s to not be afraid about what you can’t see and that you have to work together to overcome all obstacles. As a teacher, these are lessons every student needs to learn and it’s very helpful to instill these values in children at a young age when they are most impressionable.
I highly recommend picking this DVD up, it’s a great story and will make a nice addition to any child’s collection!
