The Dark Knight Rises Movie Premiere! Scotty Heads To New York And Meets Marion Cotillard! Christopher Nolan! Gary Oldman! But Misses Anne Hathaway! Christian Bale! Tom Hardy! Doh!

Scotty happened to be in New York for the Dark Knight Rises premiere! Now, this of course was before the tragic shooting that took place and rocked pretty much everyone I know’s world. It was just so senseless and tragic… My heart goes out to everyone affected by this disaster.

The premiere itself was a pretty cool affair however! Scotty was navigating his way through the city that never sleeps and brings us a full report!

I just got back from a GREAT trip to New York City. While there, I was lucky enough to catch The Dark Knight Rises world premiere. I began my day at 6 a.m. and made my way to the Today Show. I had seen that Christian Bale was going to make an appearance and thought I would try and get an autograph from him there before the madness of the premiere. Unfortunately, after waiting there for a couple of hours, security came out to inform us that Christian had cancelled his appearance. I went back to my hotel room to take a nap before the long wait at the premiere.

I made my way to the theater around 12:45p.m. To my surprise, there were only a few fans waiting, and the barricades were not completely set.

Security kept moving us from one area to another informing us that we could not block the sidewalk near the premiere. This did not make sense, as they seemed to be fine with us crowding across the street and blocking the sidewalks there.

A few other fans and I kept scoping out places. At about 4 p.m., security and police set up two sets of barricades across the street from the “black carpet.” We then heard that there was a fan pit set up near that “black carpet.”

A short time later, security chose the people in the second set of barricades to enter the fan pit. Security also proceeded to take random passers-by and let them into the fan pit before those of us who were in our set of barricades. They told us that if we had we listened to them earlier; they would have taken us sooner.

What is up with security? We were not causing any trouble. And, like the security in Los Angeles, when has it become their job to decide who deserves to be in a designated area more? I think they have forgotten that their job is to set up the fan areas, keep the stars safe, and to keep the onlookers safe. Now it seems that security on both coasts is getting on some power trip.

Finally, they let us in. For some reason everyone that went in first, lined themselves up on the barricade facing the carpet. They did not pay attention to the fact that they were going to be directly behind the press. I stood on the other side where I could see better, and could possibly have the opportunity of the celebrities to sign before entering the theater. I met some cool collectors/fans while waiting in the fan pit, which made waiting in the heat more enjoyable. (Shout out to Jason and Nick!) There was speculation that Tom Hardy and Marion Cotillard would not show due to scheduling conflicts. To my surprise, everyone but Michael Caine showed to the premiere.

Fortunately, I was able to get some great shots of the cast!

UNFORTUNATELY, nobody from the cast came over to sign. It was a complete shut out! I was shocked. It is rare that a BIG movie premiere like this does not have a single person come over and sign.

As I was exiting the barricade, a local NY collector who knew I was out from L.A. gave me a tip for the after party. He informed me that the after party was going to be at the New York Public Library. Ok, am I dreaming? A collector gave me a tip? I know we hung for most of the day, but this WOULD NEVER HAPPEN in L.A. I am floored and so thankful. That was SO NICE! Let’s learn something from this L.A. collectors!

So, I made my way to the library. The library looked insanely cool.

I saw a number of people that were at the premiere who had made their way to the party. The longer we waited, the more we became packed like sardines in a can. The barricade area got more and more crowded, which is why I was unable to get any pictures after I arrived. I could not reach down to get the camera.

A little after 11p.m., the stars began to arrive. Director, Chris Nolan arrived and signed a few autographs before heading into the party. I was one of the lucky few.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway arrived, but did not sign. Marion Cotillard arrived and graciously came over to sign and take photos. I was squeezed off to the side and was stretching with all my might to get Marion to sign my “La Vie En Rose” mini poster. Marion’s publicist was so amazing and grabbed my poster from me so that Marion could sign it. SO AMAZING! A BIG THANK YOU to her for being so kind!

While Marion was signing, Tom Hardy arrived but did not even give a wave to fans. I was disappointed to see him just rush by us.

Juno Temple arrived next and took some photos with fans, but did not sign. Pharrell Williams showed up and waved, but did not sign. Morgan Freeman arrived and waved as always. He has some issue with his hand and is unable to sign.

Gary Oldman was the next to arrive, and kindly signed for fans. Again, I stretched around and he grabbed my pen and signed my poster.

I was the last to get a signature on our side, so I was excited! I waited a while longer in the hopes that Christian Bale would arrive. Unfortunately, he did not show. I was bummed because he was a no show in the morning, did not sign at the premiere, and then did not show to this party. I heard he signed at the hotel the day before. I am finding it hard to believe that celebrities are not signing at public promotions, but will sign at hotels and the airport, where you would think they would want to be left alone. I am not going to hold anything against Christian as I know how kind he usually is to his fans. He is a class act.

At this point, I decided to call it and meet my fellow travelers for a drink. It was a LONG day. I was happy at the end that I got three great people to sign. There were still collectors/fans who were at the party that ended up with nothing. I was lucky. I have another New York signature success to write about….coming soon!
