I saw Madonna for the 19th and 20th time in 2012. She is my favorite artist of all time. Madonna never ceases to amaze me how she can continuously “WOW” an audience. Even her tours that weren’t my favorite can still outshine any other mega artist with a huge scale tour. There is a reason she can still charge a high price for a ticket and still sell out multiple nights in cities around the world.

I bought my tickets months ahead of time. As I mentioned in my top singles of 2012, I was not a fan of the first single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’.” After finally hearing the whole album in its entirety, I was hooked. I heard Madonna would be supporting “MDNA” with a world tour, and that she would again be working with director Jamie King. I am not the biggest fan of Jamie’s. I have been to other artist’s tours that were directed by him, and he reuses many of his ideas with other artists. I wasn’t sure I would want to spend a lot of money on two nights if the show was not going to be fresh. BUT, I took my chances, as I knew I would regret it later if I didn’t buy both nights. Let’s face it; if I were able to get a good seat and be near Madonna, I would not care if she just stood there.

I was able to get a decent seat for the second night, and an AMAZING seat for the first night. Martin Solveig opened both nights with a DJ set that was very crowd friendly. I would have liked a set that was not so Top 40, but it was cool nonetheless to see him. Madonna’s son, David, also joined Martin on stage.

Once the lights went out, I was taken away into a magical place that only Madonna can do for me. At 54, Madonna can still perform better than anyone half her age. I know I will hear arguments, but there really is no better. When Madonna got close to us on the catwalk, I was still beyond star struck that she was so close. She really has that sparkle that nobody has when on stage.

I loved that Madonna performed a setlist with so many of the new tracks. I know many people wanted to hear more oldies, but for a hot album like “MDNA,” I wanted to hear the new material. I did jump up and down and screamed my head off when she started singing “Cyber-Raga” at the end of “I’m A Sinner.” “Cyber-Raga” is my favorite b-side EVER! My other highlights of the night were “Gang Bang,” “I’m Addicted,” “Vogue,” and “Turn Up the Radio.” The setlist was as follows for both nights:

The MDNA tour finished its run being the top grossing tour of 2012. The tour also earned the number 10 spot of the top grossing tours of all time. Madonna may not be played on Top 40 radio like she used to, but she can still outshine anyone on stage. People still want to see the legend in person. Frankly, with the lack luster sound of “artists” being played on the radio today, I am glad Madonna is not on Top 40 radio and still producing music for those lucky enough to “get it.” Thank you Madonna for two magical nights!
