It’s Christmas Day and so of course for this weeks edition of TV Heartbeat we need to look at the top death’s on television for 2013! It’s fitting right… In a round about tipsy topsy world.
Personally, I love it!
There’s The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and more so check it out below!

New and notable We’ve had a very musical month on TV and if you’ve had enough for now, well, AMC has the cure for you! The network is marathoning Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. Yep, landmark TV people! If you haven’t been watching, here’s your chance to catch up! Watch the masterful rise and fall of Macbeth, er, Walter White in Breaking Bad beginning on Friday through late Monday night.
Then watch the death and re-birth of human existence in The Walking Dead starting on Tuesday and ending on January 2nd.
Don’t forget to get up and move around in between shows!
Tonight: Doctor Who: The Time of the Doctor (BBC America)
Friday: Breaking Bad series marathon (AMC), Nikita series finale (The CW) Marvin Hamlisch: What He Did for Love (PBS)
Tuesday: The Walking Dead series marathon (AMC)
This Friday sees the series finale of Nikita – let’s say farewell to this ass-kicking heroine!
For fans of Maggie Q, fear not – she’ll be back in March on the big screen in Divergent!
Meanwhile Shane West has moved to Salem – the upcoming first TV show from a WGN America from Brandon Bragga (24, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Terra Nova). Riding the current popularity of witches, this will be a dark look at the Salem witch trials. The show will also star Seth Gabel (Fringe), Tamzin Merchant (Tudors and the original Khalessi until she was replaced with Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones) and Janet Montgomery.
In Memorium As we head into the end of the year, it’s time to look back fondly at all the people we lost this year. Yes, it’s been a banner year for killing off favorite characters and many will be missed. Sniff! (SPOILER ALERT – DUH!!)
Let’s kick off this retrospective with the character who had the greatest impact per second of screen time. While we barely saw Beth Childs, but the fleeting image of her suicide witnessed by her doppelgänger was the genesis for the genius of Orphan Black. You’re damn right!
Built into the title, you can always count on The Walking Dead to knock off some favorite characters. So let’s say good-bye to Lori Grimes (in one of the most tearful deaths of the year)…
…T-Dog, a good guy who went down fighting and saving lives…
…Andrea, who went from suicidal to a bad ass …
…Merle, who got a gut-wrenching reveal of his ultimate fate…
…and Herschel Greene, the show’s fortune cookie (he talks like cryptic fortune cookie messages) who soon became redundant since Tyreese is the new fortune cookie.
We grow up believing that the bad guy dies in the end, so really there was only one fitting way to say goodbye to Breaking Bad’s Walter White. The only thing to stop this megalomaniac would be death and so the show ended with one of the most perfect, satisfying finales…
Although he may have deserved it for all the mayhem (or Anarchy!) he’s caused, it was a surprise to see fan-favorite Clay killed off in Sons of Anarchy this year. Fear not, I’m sure we’ll see the prolific Ron Pearlman again somewhere!
One show that didn’t have a great finale and let the bad guy get away was Dexter. Not many loved the lumberjack ending for Dexter and there was an outcry at snuffing poor Deb! Ugh!
And what about Brody in Homeland? Although he was missing for a good portion of this season, it was a shock to see him go.
Another couple of deaths we didn’t see coming (because we were just in plain denial), Matthew and Sybil Crawley. Sigh! Death came to Downton Abbey this year and it seems (bizarrely) that for any child born into this family, a parent must go. No wonder they have such trouble with the line of succession!
However, the coup de grace for this year has to go to Game of Thrones and the infamous Red Wedding. The most traumatic night of the year and the main reason why no one will ever invite David Bradley (Walder Frey) to a wedding ever again. Farewell Robb and Catelyn Stark!
On that note, happy holidays folks and I’ll see you in the new year!
