TTM Update! Gene Wilder’s Private Signing Confirmed! When Do Prices For Autographs Become Too Much?
So, we reported several weeks ago that a stamp has come into play with Gene Wilder TTMs.
If you haven’t read the article, you might want to read it… https://www.mikethefanboy.com/ttm-update-gene-wilder-stamps-raise-questions/
As we stated, the stamping trend raised some questions…
Many people have official full size posters, books, DVDs, and cast items that have been stamped. I would argue that the stamp ruined many of these fan’s collectibles.
Fast Forward.
Our writers at Mike the Fanboy predicted it, and we would like to share the news with you.
Today, OC Sports Cards has officially announced an upcoming signing with Gene Wilder.

The timing, as we stated earlier, raises more questions.
We have to ask ourselves. Are private signings hurting the hobby?
The lack of reasonable prices prevent real fans from being able to own a piece of memorabilia. For many, TTM is the only method of obtaining their collection goals at a budget. I would argue the large majority of collectors do not have the same privileges that collectors who live in Los Angeles or New York have.
Private signings are creeping into play. Ultimately, changing the dynamic of the common autograph and the celebrity-fan relationship. Signings are common, as of late, with the older generation of celebrities who no longer have a steady income. However, newer stars like Lea Michele have been introduced to the private signing game. Originally, it started with sports and has spread violently.
People need to ask themselves what they want to pay for an autograph. Prices keep rising… Collectibles essentially are not appreciating as fast as the prices rise.
I can remember even at a collector’s show you could go, have a good time and not drop $200. Now, it’s a different story. Where $20 was the norm per signature even for a smaller character actor. Now, it’s more like $40, if you’re lucky.
Paying $200 for a Gene Wilder autograph is quite possibly more than that signature will ever be worth.
Where is the fine line? When will it be too much?
I believe it is something we need to ask ourselves…
Pure greed. I hate people sometimes
Really sad that the hobby is coming to this. It’s a sad revelation and it’s true. $$
Yeah, I think its ridiculous. He’s signed so many for free over the years, even when he’s dead his signature won’t be worth any where near $200.
The Hollywood show is in on it too. they just announced their signing with gene

I’m surprised Celebrity Authentics isn’t getting stuff signed so they can charge $600 for a wilder autograph
The private signings have generally been put into place, with celebrities, to give the fans a chance to obtain a real autograph from a usual non-signing celebrity. Jerry Lewis and Dick Van Dyke employ secretaries to sign for them. Ed O’Neill has employed companies to send facsimile autographs. With Gene, we are not yet sure what the true authenticity of the “real” ttms is. They seem to be a good attempt at his style, but not truly Gene’s. Whoever is doing the stamp, is probably just having some fun at the fans expense. I will go in on the signing, knowing I will get a real one. These companies, as high as prices may seem, are probably not making a killing. They have to base their prices on what the star charges and maybe more to make a profit. They don’t do signings out of kindness, it is a business, and in this case the business is bringing a supply where there the supply has always been outweighed by the demand.
The only debate about the authenticity of the Wilder’s via TTM are the people wanting you to drop money on the signing.
Um, they are making a killing. Please. I’m sure you work for them “Jason” but don’t try and pretend these people are doing anyone a service. You’re sending in your item and trusting these clowns with your cash and item, how do I know he signed it? A photo that may or may not be of my piece getting signed. Come on. I’ve seen the people who work at this and other services and I wouldn’t trust them with a piece of shit let alone a collectable.
So Jason, when you say you’re going in on buying an autograph, is that because you’re getting an employee discount? Next time, try not to make it so obvious you work for the company you’re shilling for.
I’m with you Voice of Reason!
Come on. These autograph-private signing-people are getting shadier and shadier
This is a sad state for the hobby. This is free money for the signers and it’s a terrible thing to do to actual fans. (Not the dealers though.) Unfortunately, it is not going to go away. More ways will be found squeeze every nickel out of the fans. We’re just going to have to ask ourselves how much free money are we willing to give away for a few seconds with a celebrity for a quick signature and someone yelling at us that no pictures are allowed to be taken unless we pony up more cash.
No, I don’t work for them. I pay my money just like any other customer. Any one works for these private signing companies surely wouldn’t be on this site. I love this site for the IP stories and ttm tips but someone working for this company wouldn’t be on this site. They wouldn’t be sending ttm requests (like me) or waiting in line at IP signings (like me). They are at the homes of the stars providing the private signing services. For example, they are giving me the service of obtaining a Dick Van Dyke autograph because I don’t want a ttm fake and I don’t live near the autograph show.
I am not totally sure about the “real” ttms. We know the stamps are fake, so at this point if someone wants a real one, or if someone doesn’t trust the ttms (that really don’t look like Gene’s handwriting), then the signing is the only way. Don’t like it? Don’t buy in, simple as that. Enjoy your ttm autograph. Or buy one on ebay. Gene’s done book signings and I’m sure along with some real ones that he really signed you’ll find some of the ttms for sale on ebay.
Gene’s signatures from the signing will look exactly like his TTM signatures. “real” ttms what a fucking joke. “JASON” sounds like the fat lazy fuck Todd Fuckerson. YAY I spend all day playing video games and getting fatter my the minute.
Jason, pull the other leg while you’re at it. So, you don’t work for them, but you’ll speak on their behalf and claim where they do and don’t surf online? I know if I owned a business I’d want to know what people were specifically saying about me. We are not stupid, and we can easily recognize a blatant shill no matter how loudly the shill wants to deny it. But hey, keep sowing doubt on the ttm authenticity and talking up the benefits of your company’s, I mean that company you swear you are in no way affiliated with and the “service” they provide to silence the naysayers and drum up more business.
Mike has even written before how the studios come here to see what’s posted, but we’re supposed to believe you when you claim that OC Dugout would never bother to even look here. So you’re either incredibly stupid or a very bad liar. But in all fairness I’ll be willing to accept that you may be both.
Because I don’t work for the company, so I won’t know exactly what they do perhaps I can’t speak to whether they look at the site or not. Either way, glad a company can provide the service of real ttm signatures.
Hey, I think Teri Garr’s ttm is real and Priscilla Presley’s too and they did private signings. So I don’t buy in on every signing.
It would be one thing if it went to charity but who does this even go to? The private signing people? Gene?? 199.00 wouldn’t be so bad if it went to charity.
It doesn’t go to Charity… It goes to the mega greedy asswipes of OC Dugout
