TV Heartbeat! Amy Schumer Live! Continuum series finale!

The pace of premieres and specials slows down a bit now that we head into the baseball playoffs. Don’t worry, things will kick back into high gear in a few weeks, but there are definitely some notables this week!

Continuum wraps up its thoughtful and exciting run with the series finale this week. Layered and twisty, this has been a fun show but it feels like a good time to wrap up so let’s see how the future pans out!

Continuum finale

It Girl Amy Schumer has her own HBO special taped live at the Apollo. Look for lots of funny from this girl!

Speaking of live tapings, PBS is kicking off a series of Live from Lincoln Center broadcasts with a performance of Show Boat. While this musical isn’t the most exciting, it is pretty significant in musical history and features some classic songs (“Old Man River,” “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man”). The cast includes Fred Willard, Vanessa Williams and Norm Lewis (Scandal).

Show Boat

Tonight: Kingdom debut (DirecTV)
Friday: Truth Be Told debut (NBC), Continuum series finale (Syfy), Satisfaction season premiere (USA), The Knick season premiere (Cinemax), Beasts of No Nation (Netflix), Live from Lincoln Center: Show Boat (PBS)

Health check

It’s been nearly a month since the fall season started so here’s a quick re-cap on the early verdicts:

  • Renewed: Blindspot, Bob’s Burgers (two seasons), Tyrant, Zoo
  • Full season: Fresh Off the Boat, Quantico,
  • Cancelled: Beauty and the Beast, Dominion, Extant, Minority Report (no formal announcement, but the episode reduction was basically the death knell)

Meanwhile, there is no official word on the following shows, here’s what their future looks like:

  • Good health: Limitless, Rosewood
  • Questionable prognosis: Dr. Ken, The Muppets, Scream Queens, Vampire Diaries
  • Headed to the morgue: Blood and Oil, Code Black, CSI: Cyber, Grandfathered, Grinder, The Player, Sleepy Hollow, Undateable

The CW is having a really rough start with pretty much everything starting low or lower. Nearly every show was renewed last year so it’ll be interesting to see if they can afford to launch a bunch of new shows next year.

Stay tuned!
