TV Heartbeat! Double edition! Finale bonanza! Houdini & Doyle debuts! Grace and Frankie are back!

Welcome to a double edition of TV Heartbeat! I have two weeks worth of what’s new and notable and it’s all about the start of the broadcast finale season!

The broadcast TV season wraps up this month so we’ll be bidding goodbye to our favorite network shows for a while. CBS is the first network to kick into high gear so expect a lot of wedding and deaths in the next couple of weeks! Among the big finales this week? The final adieu to CBS’s perennial awards darling, The Good Wife.

Person of Interest returns for the second half of its final season. Fans should note there’s an additional new episode on Monday — the scheduling gods probably didn’t know what to do with the episode count so there’s a bonus episode.

In another form of farewell, HBO has the annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony with tributes to David Bowie, Glenn Frey and a replay of Prince’s induction ceremony performance. But it’s not all about sadness! The ceremony is really about this year’s honorees which include: Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, N.W.A. and Steve Miller.

Showtime’s Penny Dreadful is back for another gothic, scary season. Energy one is scattered about so expect to see your heroes in the Wild West and Victorian England this season.

Fox is also going historical with Houdini & Doyle which is based on the actual friendship between Harry Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This duo will be solving paranormal cases with the help of the first female Constable of Scotland Yard. Yes, not all of this is based on actual history. But it could be an intriguing mash up….

For something even lighter, Netflix’s funny Grace and Frankie is back for a second season. The first season was worth bingeing so let’s hope the second season is as well!

Ok, if you’re in the mood for the opposite of a modern-day comedy, WGN America’s successful Underground wraps up its first season. Never fear, the buzzy show will be back for a second season!

In Westeros…

Game of Thrones returned to a live audience basically on par with last year’s premiere. The final verdict on the audience size will need to include all the repeats and DVR play so we’ll have answers next week.

While it was nice to check in with everyone, we still don’t have resolution on Jon Snow (because he’s coming back people!). However, I was happy for the cheer-worthy moment for Brienne who has finally (FINALLY) had a couple of good days.
