[UPDATED] TV Heartbeat! Postponed finale for Mr Robot! Finales for Dark Matter! Hannibal!

[UPDATE]

In the wake of today’s tragic and senseless on-air shooting during a morning news show in Virginia, USA network is postponing tonight’s finale of Mr. Robot. The finale contains elements too similar to today’s horror so the finale will be broadcasted next week instead.

I’m sending prayers and good wishes to those impacted by today’s events in Virginia. Please don’t tell me the name of the shooter or anything about him/her. Let the bastard just fade into obscurity….

Back to our regularly scheduled program…

A few summer shows are wrapping up their season this week! Say farewell to some worthy shows as we hit the calm before the storm known as the new fall TV season!

First off, Mr. Robot ends a stellar first season tonight. This hypnotic tale of a hacker conspiracy is already renewed so there will be more! After the big twist last week, I’m very curious to see how they are wrapping up this season…

Mr Robot

Dark Matter, the Syfy show based on a Dark Horse comic, also wraps up its first season with two episodes. Six people wake up on a space ship with no memory of who they are or how they got there. They quickly learn that their past may be more checkered than they hoped for. Wil Wheaton drops by in the season finale. No word yet on whether this interesting show will get a second season.

Dark Matters

There is one show that is definitely making its final bow this week: Hannibal. The third and final season serves up its final course this Saturday. Showrunner Byran Fuller had mapped out several more seasons (including the appearance of Clarice Starling in two seasons) so we may not get as elegant an ending as Fuller may have wanted.  He has his next gig though –  American Gods for Starz so we will be seeing more from him!

Hannibal finale

MTV has its annual video kudo fest and will follow up with a few new premieres including Awkward, Faking It and a new docu-series, Todnick, which follows Todrick Hall as he makes his weekly YouTube videos.

Tonight: Suits season finale (USA), Mr. Robot season finale (USA), The Carmichael Show debut (NBC)
Friday: Defiance season finale (Syfy), Dark Matter season finale (Syfy)
Saturday: Hannibal series finale (NBC)
Sunday: MTV Video Music Awards (MTV)
Monday: Awkward season premiere (MTV), Faking It season premiere (MTV), Todrick debut (MTV)
Tuesday: Drunk History season premiere (Comedy)

Health check

Audiences really didn’t fear Fear the Walking Dead which just had the biggest cable debut ever! AMC is in desperate need of a ratings monster since The Walking Dead is, well, aging and getting really expensive. There are fewer seasons ahead than behind for The Walking Dead. Fear the Walking Dead certainly landed a huge audience, but most of the buzz I’m hearing is disappointment in the characters, the pace and the focus. (I don’t disagree.) But this is a short season (6 episodes), so let’s see if they can get their mojo working and find their voice before they lose that ratings momentum. The season finale will get a Talking Dead follow up show which will likely preview the new season of The Walking Dead.

Fear the Walking Dead

Speaking of losing ratings, HBO has yet to announce another season for True Detective which lost 20% of the audience of the first season. While it still had a sizeable audience, HBO’s prestige show inspired a lot of hate-watching so let’s see if the show comes back with enough of a cast/crew shakeup to lure viewers and get their prestige back.

Stay tuned!
