TV Heartbeat! The Sound Of Music Sequel! Psych The Musical! Orphan Black Returns! Showtime Documentary And More!

What’s happening now? 128 days until the new season of Orphan Black begins! (April 19th if you don’t want to do the math…)

Ever wonder who reads twitter? Well, the Powers That Be at Orphan Black do! Orphan Black fan Patrick Adams (Suits) posted a few tweets begging to be on the show and, well, Santa must think he’s been a good boy this year since he will guest star in season 2.

But if you need something else to pass the time until then, Showtime is showing Another Day/Another Time: Celebrating the Music of “Inside Llewlyn Davis.” This was a one night only concert to celebrate the music of the upcoming Coen brothers film and includes: Joan Baez, Patti Smith, Jack White, Marcus Mumford, the Avett Brothers, Rhiannon Giddens, Punch Brothers, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Willie Watson, The Milk Carton Kids, Colin Meloy, Lake Street Dive, and the star of Inside Llewyn Davis, Oscar Isaac.

If you’re looking for a different kind of music, Psych The Musical makes its debut on Sunday. Filled with original songs, the episode also features Anthony Rapp (Adventures in Babysitting, Rent) and Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club, Hedwig and the Angry Inch)

Psych - Season 7

And speaking of musicals, NBC’s live broadcast of The Sound of Music was wildly successful and will be replayed this Saturday.

Friday: Another Day/Another Time: Celebrating the Music of “Inside Llewlyn Davis” (Showtime)
Saturday: Replay of The Sound of Music Live! (NBC)
Sunday: Psych – The Musical (USA)
Tuesday: The Voice season finale (NBC)

Talk time! So how did everyone like The Sound of Music Live!? The most watched program on NBC since the Must See TV era, lots of people certainly tuned in.

The Sound of Music Live! - Season 2013

Carrie Underwood was incredibly brave to take on one of the most beloved musical theater icons without any prior acting experience. She sang well and managed to remove her “country twang” that scared me after watching the The Making of The Sound of Music Live! Was she Julie Andrews? No. Was she horrible? No. I’ve definitely seen worse (Remember Nick Jonas in the Les Miserable 25th Anniversary concert?).

The Sound of Music Live! - Season 2013

I think it’s easy to get really snarky on social media, but I have to say that this was a huge gamble and they were pretty successful. The live aspect went smoothly (one dropped propped, but that was about it) and who doesn’t love the score? Especially when you have Audra McDonald singing Climb Every Mountain…

The Sound of Music Live! - Season 2013

Inevitably, when something is successful, studios start talking sequels. Thankfully we are not talking about continuing the story with the Von Trapps running off to Coney Island to run their own theater or anything like that — that’s Love Never Dies, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera – true story!

love never dies musical

Nope, the producers are thinking of staging another musical next season. I’m sort of dreading something like Grease with Demi Lovato and One Direction as the T-Birds.

What did you guys think of The Sound of Music Live? Any suggestions for what they should produce for next year?
