TV Heartbeat! Supergirl premieres! Game of Thrones and Doctor Who Collide!

A very busy Saturday, the latest superhero entry flies in and a health check update!

PBS continues its Fall Arts Festival with a broadcast of a London performance of Billy Elliot, the award-winning musical based on the film. It wasn’t my favorite musical, but there are some lovely moments in this Elton John musical about a young boy who wants to dance, to the consternation of his family and community.

The quest ends! Yes, Da Vinci’s Demons begins its final season this week. If you just can’t wait to see how this all ends, you can actually binge the full season on Starz Play starting this Saturday as well.

Starz is also wrapping up the season on Survivor’s Remorse and Blunt Talk. Survivor’s Remorse has already been renewed for another season, but the jury is still out on Blunt Talk. (C’mon! Who doesn’t love Patrick Stewart?)

Fandoms collide on Saturday when Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams guest stars on Doctor Who. Buzz is already great for her role and fans are hoping that she’ll be back again.

CBS gets its first superhero show with the debut of Supergirl. An odd fit for the network with its older audience and gluttony of procedural crime shows, the show has a lot of promise with some reservations. I’ll discus it more when I review the show.

ABC is headed back to the rock ‘n roll heyday of the Sunset Strip in the 1980s with Wicked City. Ed Westwick stars as a serial killer that the detectives (Jeremy Sisto and Gabriel Luna) are trying to track and take down. The cast also includes Erika Christensen as his girlfriend.

Health check

The future of many shows are in doubt including social media darling Scream Queens. Based on ratings alone, this should would be laying in a pool of blood, but the social buzz is still strong. It’ll be interesting to see if that buzz and not wanting to piss off Ryan Murphy are strong enough reasons to renew the show.

A few veteran shows are struggling to find their audience this season so they need to hope that the freshman class continue to struggle for them to live to see another season.

Good health: Blindspot, Quantico, Rosewood, Dr. Ken, Limitless, Life in Pieces
Questionable prognosis: The Muppets, Scream Queens, Heroes Reborn, Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, Nashville, Castle
Headed to the morgue: Blood and Oil, Code Black, CSI: Cyber, Grandfathered, Grinder, The Player, Sleepy Hollow, Hawaii Five-0, Truth Be Told, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Reign

Stay tuned!
