TV Heartbeat! The Forecast Includes a Sharknado! Simon Pegg in Star Wars!!! More Fargo! The Army of the 12 Monkeys!

Sharknado 2: The Second One hopes to make more craptastic history! Can the sequel replicate the twitter maelstrom to rival the original Sharknado? To put it in perspective: the volume on twitter generated by the first one rivaled Game of Throne’s Red Wedding (and was far more entertaining than the actual movie). Let’s see if lightning (or whatever accompanies a sharknado) strikes twice for Syfy!

Phineas and Ferb, meanwhile, will head back a long time ago to a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars fan Simon Pegg will voice an Imperial commander and C-3PO in this special episode.

In Running Wild with Bear Grylls, the adventurer takes a celebrity each episode into the wilderness for 48 hours. Get your shirtless Zac Efron fix and also see how Ben Stiller, Channing Tatum, Deion Sanders, Tom Arnold and Today anchor Tamron Hall fare in the wild.

Health check

The final ratings on The Strain? A whopping 10 million people last week! Yep, the pilot directed by Guillermo del Toro had one of the biggest debuts of the year. Just another reason why the networks are really focusing on the “Live+7” ratings which include the live and DVR results. With so much good stuff on Sunday night, there’s a lot of shifty people so the live ratings don’t reflect the true audience for a show. The studios are pleading with the press to ignore the live ratings, but, unfortunately, live ratings are fast and easy and some advertisers are very time-sensitive advertisers (think movies, weekend sales, etc…) so they won’t be going away.

Speaking of needing DVR results, Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex had good debuts last week, especially when you consider they didn’t have Dexter (RIP!) or Homeland to help lead in. However, the network is waiting on DVR results to declare their official triumph – in any case, both shows started healthy for their second season.

FX announced several renewals including Louie and Fargo! Yes, we’ll get more Fargo even though it’ll be a new cast, a different time and a different crime. As marvelous as Allison Tolman was, she probably can’t play 4 years old very well so we won’t see Molly in season 2 flashes back to 1979. But we will get to see her dad (played in season one by Keith Carradine). Alas, we’ll have over a year to wait to see what happens next/before!

In non-shocking news, TNT renewed The Last Ship, one of the biggest cable debuts this year. Next season, the show will expand from 10 to 13 episodes.

Elsewhere on the network, we’ll see more skitters with a fifth and final season for Falling Skies and another season for Major Crimes.

Currently airing a million times each week, The CW has renewed Whose Line Is It Anyway? for a third season.

Still in production, Syfy’s 12 Monkeys TV series won’t be making the trek, to San Diego and Comic Con this week. Instead they’ve released a trailer for the show which stars Aaron Stanford (X-Men’s Pyro) and will debut in January:
