Welcome back to Billy Beer’s Barstool. Today we are off to the Virtuosos Awards for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Now, being real, I can’t believe I’m skipping the Super Bowl for this, but since I don’t care for either team, and I’m running out of time during award season, this would be the perfect time to get some of the harder names so far this year. I’ve never been to this film festival, and I’ve heard it can be bad sometimes, but I decided to try my luck. Let the adventures begin.
After a long car ride, forgetting a few of my photos at home and a few hours of waiting, things are finally ready to begin. Here comes the first drop. Again, I’ve never done this before, so I’m expecting the first cars to be nobodies, but we start off with one of the Award Winners Jenny Slate.
I had missed Jenny at another event, but it was raining, so who knows. After a few seconds of prepping, she made her way over. She started a little to my left, and after she signed a bunch over there, she finally made her way to us. She was pretty nice, signing whatever you had and took pictures too. I got both of my items signed
Next a surprise visitor to MOST of us was Christopher Lloyd. I had nothing for him which sucks cause my sister is a HUGE Back to the Future fan. While he’s signing the next person arrives, it’s Rosamond Pike. Now, I’ve missed her every time I’ve seen her this award season. She starts on the other end and stays there for a while. I’m getting a little worried thinking I might have to move, when her publicist finally brings her our way. I was only able to get one of my two done, but at least I got her.
Next up was Logan Lerman, and thankfully he brought his beautiful lady Ms. Alexandra Daddario. Logan goes all the way to the other side, so we call over Alexandra. She is super nice and signs my two photos and takes 3 photo-ops with me cause they kept coming out blurry. Sorry Mike, no photo fail will be given to you!
Logan is taking his time making sure everyone is taken care of when J.K. Simmons arrives. One of the pictures I forgot, and of course he finally comes over to sign.
I tell him I’m wearing my Tigers hat for him cause I knew he was a Tiger fan. He was like “you must have seen SNL last night” which he hosted. “Nope, I remember you from a Tiger’s vs Dodgers game I went to that you took your son to.” He was kind of surprised, then grabs my Perks of Being a Wallflower poster I had for Logan. I felt bad, but I told him that wasn’t for him, and then he moved on.
Logan finally makes his way down to us. First I give him the Perks poster which he is happy to sign, Then I flip over my board and ask him if he would sign my Fury poster too. I told him Shia was already on it. He seemed very interested and was interacting very well with the fans. Finally I ask for a picture which he gladly does.
Next to arrive was Chadwick Boseman……..at least that’s who everyone screamed for. Nope, it was David Oyelowo. He grinned about it, then came over signed and took pictures.
He has always been super nice the few times I have met him. I had him sign my Butler picture with instructions to stay away from the Oprah signature, and then took a picture with him too.
The last one to arrive was the real Chadwick. I’ve heard he’s on the tougher side, and with him now cast as Black Panther, I wasn’t sure what to expect. He ended up following suit, and went down the line and signed for everyone. I guess he’s not really a photo-op kind of guy though.
Oh, somewhere in there Ellar Coltrane signed a couple, but I had nothing for him.
I only had one Rosamond picture left to get signed. I waited for her to finish her interviews, and sure enough, she went to another spot to sign, and I was able to get my final picture done.
This doesn’t happen often, but surprising EVERYTHING I brought got signed. Well, I got to get back to Oceanside to go to work in the morning, Until next time people.
