Box Office Breakdown! Mr. Peabody Pops! 300 Rocks! Veronica Mars #10! Need For Speed Sputters!
I don’t think anyone anticipated this weekend’s box office chart would pan out the way it did. I sure didn’t! Mr. Peabody & Sherman opened last week at number two, but managed to take the top spot this weekend with $21 million.
The sexy Spartans of 300: Rise of An Empire came in second banana to an animated dog with $19 million.
Need for Speed, the film poised to make Aaron Paul a bona fide star, came in at number three with $17.8 million, which wasn’t too shabby.
Non-Stop downgraded to coach and came in at number four with $10 million.
Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club opened at number five with $8.3 million. Am I the only one who never even heard of this movie? Maybe it’s just that I tune out whenever Tyler Perry is on screen.
Those tiny plastic heroes from The LEGO Movie are still making bank at number six with $7.7 million to add to their $236 million domestic total.
Son of God remained powerful at number seven with $5.4 million. Not bad for a TV miniseries brought to the big screen.
The Grand Budapest Hotel moved to wide release this week and climbed from the number seventeen spot to number eight with $3.6 million.
Frozen’s reign is getting chilly, with the film dropping two degrees to number nine with $2.1 million. After seventeen weeks in release, it was bound to happen.
Rounding out the top ten was Veronica Mars, which opened this weekend at just $2 million. Perhaps its karma for ignoring fans at the premiere.

Next week The Muppets take on the exceptional teens from Divergent. The next Twilight / Hunger Games wanna be could fall flat on its face and nostalgia could be a big boost for those lovable Muppets. I’m going out on a limb, (as the only movie forecaster I’m sure) and predicting The Muppets Most Wanted will be next weekend’s box office champ. Tune in to see if I’m right.
Until then, happy movie going.
