Wizard Chicago 2015 report! Cosplays and celebrities and screenings!
Wizard invaded Chicago last weekend! This year’s edition was bigger than ever with every inch of the con in use! Why was it so big this year?
Well, this year’s edition evolved to include the Bruce Campbell’s Groovy Fest which took over a lot of the second floor exhibit hall.
There was a huge Evil Dead reunion which seemed to bring out the Ash in all of us…
Bruce Campbell was around this weekend with the announcement of a Kickstarter campaign for his trivia game show Last Fan Standing which you can check out here. He had one of the biggest crowds of the con with a line that seemed to go on and on and on. It’s nice that they had the new Ash vs Evil Dead posters ready for signing! Groovy!
But those weren’t the only Deadite killers, er, zombie killers around. Scott Wilson, Michael Rooker, Jon Bernthal and Norman Reedus also met the fans.
While I didn’t actually see Norman, I did spot an adorably fierce Daryl (who may be a bit young to be watching The Walking Dead!!)
Jon Bernthal is also playing the Punisher in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil so perhaps he should join the Hell’s Kitchen heroes below:
Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin and Summer Glau were also in the house! Shiny! This brought out some insane lines and also tons of Firefly cosplay:
My main goal was to get Emilie de Ravin on my Lost poster that I’ve been working on for years. Unfortunately she had to cancel so I didn’t spend too much time in the celebrity section. Sadness!
But fear not! In addition to the stars, Wizard also hosted a larger number of TV screenings this year. The local TV affiliates brought in Supergirl and Scream Queens. (I’ll have more on this closer to their premieres in September.)
There was a panel for Fox’s new show, Minority Report, but they did not screen the pilot since some of it is being re-shot. If you remember the movie, there was a pair of pre-cog twins, Arthur and Dashiell. The TV series is focused on Dash’s story after the events in the movie. The show originally planned to have Stark Sands play both twins, but they decided to nix that idea (too much work) and are instead having another actor play Arthur. Hence a bit of re-tooling to the pilot.
Con TV was in full swing. This online, subscription network streams selected Wizard panels from its many, many cons.
Cirque du Soleil was plugging their latest show, Toruk, which is inspired by Avatar.
There were also lots of other fun booths including a 3D printing station and a makeup effects school that transformed folks into the friendliest monsters.
And, of course, no con is complete without the cosplayers!
And thus wraps up another Wizard Chicago Comic Con!
Stay tuned!

Woo! I was there too. I was really bummed that Emilie, Billie Piper, and Arthur Darvill all canceled. I ended up only meeting Milo Ventimiglia…who is quite possibly the nicest person on the planet. Glad you had a good time 🙂
Yes, it was an unusually long cancellation list this year. But it’s still fun to hang with friends and they did mix things up a bit more this year! Say hi next year! 🙂
It was an amazing weekend again, wish I could find more info on the Evil Dead cabin group upstairs! Looking forward to 2016!
