It’s Wondercon Weekend! Also known as the little brother to San Diego Comic Con, Wondercon has moved to Anaheim for the past couple years as San Francisco gets renovated and the schedule opens up.
San Francisco’s loss is Los Angeles gain!
Honestly, I’ll be running around a lot today, I some interviews lined up and there are a couple signings I would like, plus wouldn’t it be nice to see a panel or two? Heck yeah!
I drove down with Suddenly Susan and on the way there we saw poor Tomas the Train being towed in the back of a truck.
“he thought he could, he thought he could, but then… Nah, he couldn’t”
Once in Anaheim we did the badge pick up and waited in line to get in.
One inside there was the usual line drawing for autograph chaos.
I wanted The Evil Dead signing very badly. I’m still not sure about the remake but the signing includes Bruce Campbell and the full cast so I had to try.
There were three other signings, Pacific Rim and The Conjuring as well. Erica was in line for Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
After being ushered around by the line nazis. I swear there was one awesome guy, like he’s the coolest guy, but the people they have volunteering think that they are just the Con Masters.
Anyway, Susan and I were both able to score Pacific Rim wristbands while waiting for Evil Dead.
Then our line finally started moving. When it was our turn for the line drawing, I for some shear stroke of luck picked a winner! Hell yeah!
Susan however got a rock.
Knowing what we know about cons, even though the volunteer loudly kept telling people there was no way to get in when there was a stand by line forming on the other side. Lord.
So Susan ran over there while I waited for The Conjuring.
Susan got a winning ticket as well for Evil Dead! Yeah! And then we both got tickets for the Conjuring!
We met up with The Lovely Erica who was in town with her sister Linda.
Now it was time to check out the Legendary panel with Pacific Rim and The Conjuring.
Director James Wan was at the panel and introduced some pretty damn creepy footage. I wish Lili Taylor was here! Damn! Instead we were treated to the people who lived through what the movie was based on. Pretty interesting actually if only the moderator had been a little bit more on the ball.
I had to take off to talk to the cast of one of my new favorite series Vikings on History Channel. I’ll have more from my interviews with the cast soon.
But then I had to run upstairs for the Pacific Rim signing. Director Guillermo del Toro was signing posters and he’s aways so nice to his fans. This time however, he took so so so so long chatting with people he pushed everything super late. Like an hour late. LOL…
Still, every time you can meet an iconic director like Guillermo del Toro it’s a genuine thrill.
Then I had to line up for The Conjuring signing with Susan and Erica. Sadly, time was so short I had to leave. The people in charge of the signing were so nice however, they said that Erica could get my poster and Susan’s poster as well.
Susan and I ran upstairs to interview the cast of Teen Wolf and again I’ll have a lot more on that later. It was so great to meet the cast!
Then it was time for The Evil Dead signing. Running back downstairs we made it just in time. Bruce Campbell was awesome and super friendly as was Shiloh Fernandez. Susan and I are both big fans of his. She got to chat with his about Deadgirl which was fun.
After the signing, we got to hit the convention floor for the first time.
This year Wondercon seemed bigger actually.
There were stormtroopers, and other assorted Cosplayers roaming the hallowed halls.
One of the coolest things was seeing Tom Cruise’s ship from Oblivion , a movie I can’t wait for. The ship is huge! And looked epic.
There were a lot of cosplayers out and about and I have to tell you, a lot of them were pretty damn awesome.
I honestly respect the hobby, it’s not for me but I respect the time and effort everyone goes through.
Even the kids were getting into the act.
I had a tiring yet fun day.
After leaving of course we passed the protestors telling everyone at the con we were going to burn in hell. Nice! This may or may not be true but it’s not for the reasons these guys are telling me. LOL…
Of course we’ll have more from the Vikings and Teen Wolf casts coming soon as well as the day two recap.
Until next time kids…
