Box Office Breakdown! Big Hero 6 Leaps To The Top! Interstellar Is Close Behind! Gone Girl #3! And More!
I surprised even myself this weekend. Big Hero 6 was the box office winner with $56.2 million. That’s a solid opening, but with a budget of $165 million, Bay Max will need some box office legs to reap any profit.
Interstellar blasted into number two with $50 million for the weekend. That’s a far cry behind Nolan’s other non-Batman opening of $62 million for Inception four years ago.
Gone Girl moved up a spot to number three after six weeks in release with $6.1 million for a worldwide total of $303 million. The real mystery is why this film wasn’t made sooner.
Ouija fell to number four with $6 million for a domestic total of $43.4 million. With a tiny budget of $5 million, you don’t need a magic eight ball to tell you a sequel is in the works.
St. Vincent moved up two spots to number five with $5.7 million. This Indie charmer is all set for Awards season as well as a high profit margin.
Nightcrawler tumbled to number six with $5.5 million and a domestic total of $19.7 million. Looks like those rave reviews couldn’t help this creepy thriller.
Fury fell to number seven with $5.5 million ($12K shy of the above). After four weeks in release this war drama is finally in the black; but with only $1 million in profit.
John Wick fought his way to number eight with $4 million and a domestic total of $34 million. It’s modest budget of $20 million means a solid profit for this revenge flick.
Alexander came in at number nine with another $3.4 million. This family fun romp made for a solid little hit.
Rounding out the top ten was The Book of Life with $2.8 million. It’s high budget of $50 million has left this animated movie in the red and out of the top ten in just four weeks.
