Suddenly Susan’s Box Office Breakdown! X-Men Mutates To The Top! Godzilla Still Smashing! Blended Bombs! Rio Is Still Flying!

The X-Men dominated box office sales this weekend and captured the top spot with $90.7 million. That’s the 4th highest grossing weekend of 2014. Not bad for a franchise that’s 14 years old. Well done mutants.

Godzilla smashed his way into the number two spot with $31 million, but that’s a 66% drop in ticket sales. Combined with its total domestic gross of $149 million versus its $160 million budget and I’m not sure Godzilla 2 is a definite.

The Adam Sandler / Drew Barrymore reunion piece Blended bombed, opening at number three with $14 million. Let me officially welcome Adam to the ex-SNLers whose movies stop making money club. His induction was long overdue.

Neighbors continued to invite over some laughs at number four with almost $14 million and a domestic total of $113 million.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 snared another $7.8 million and is flying high with a worldwide total of $674 million.

Million Dollar Arm failed to score any runs, falling to number six in its second week of release with $7 million.

The ladies from The Other Woman nabbed the number seven spot with $3.6 million to their $77 million domestic total.

Rio 2 may lack a snappy title, but it hasn’t stopped movie going from flocking to this sequel. The animated film came in at number eight with $2.5 million.

Chef was on the menu at number nine, having expanded to 498 locations and earning a solid $2.26 million.

Rounding out the top ten was Heaven is for Real with $1.9 million.

Next week is a tough call and could very well end my unbelievable winning streak. Will the X-Men hang on to the top spot, or will Angelina Jolie or Seth MacFarlane reign supreme?  I think Angie will squeak past the X-Men by a nose. Tune in to see if I’m right.

Until then, happy movie going.
