Box Office Breakdown! The Hobbit Still On Top! Unbroken Exceeds Estimates! Into The Woods Not Far Behind!
Looks like The Hobbit not only took the weekend, but it also broke my 11 week winning streak. The Peter Jackson trilogy brought in $41.4 million over the five day weekend.
Unbroken shocked the box office world by taking the number two spot with a stunning $47.3 million five day total.
Into the Woods wasn’t far behind at number three with $46.1 million, but it’s not the fairy tale numbers for which Disney had hoped.
Night at the Museum 2 stumbled to number four with $20.6 million. With a $127 million budget, this movie will soon be history.
Annie continued a steady decline into number five with $16.6 million and a domestic total of just $45.8 million. It’s a hard knock life indeed.
The Hunger Games is still making its mark at number six with $10 million and a domestic total of $306.6 million in six weeks.
The Gambler should definitely fold. This remake opened at number seven with just $9.3 million over the three day weekend. Luckily, its modest budget of $25 million will keep Marky Mark employed.
The Imitation Game climbed up to number eight with $7.9 million. The indie charmer was at number sixteen last week, but critical accolades gained a 747 additional theatre run.
After only three weeks in release, Exodus was cast down to number nine with $6.7 million and a domestic total of $52.5 million.
Rounding out the top ten was Wild with $5.4 million.
