Britney Spears Femme Fatale Tour Staples Center Los Angeles June 20th 2011 Concert Review With Nicki Minaj! Photos!
I really wasn’t sure what to expect walking in the doors to the Staples Center, see… What I know of Britney Spears is tabloid fodder, it’s a punch line, it’s… well… not all that flattering. However, a very good friend of mine loves her… and I mean LOVES her… So, I figured there must be merit left to the blonde pop goddess….
With that said, I am a concert purist. I like to hear artists sing, so I wasn’t sure I would like this night out… Sigh…
The opener was Ms. Nicki Minaj, and even though her style of music isn’t really my thing, I thought she was decent. The sound mix wasn’t the best but for an opening act I thought that she had a great opening set and really played well with the audience.
However, what the audience really wanted was Brit Brit! I mean hello… It’s Britney Bitch! Again, I wasn’t sure what to expect and running into a good friend who I haven’t seen in forever in search of libations in the lobby didn’t ease my apprehension when he referred to Britney Spears as the “Britbot.” God, I love a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reference…
Anyway, the countdown started… The light up neon sign exclaiming Femme Fatale was pulsating… Yep, it is Britney Bitch…
From the opening number it was clear that this audience was pumped to see their blonde heroine, and I have to hand it to her… she puts on a hell of a good show. I am moderately familiar with Femme Fatale, Britney’s new album but I was shocked at how good it sounded “live.” I mean the opening number was Til The World Ends and the closing number was Hold It Against Me so if you start and end the show with new material you know it’s strong.
Now a lot has been said about Britney singing, lip syncing, etc… Yeah that kind of bothered me; I mean she probably sang like 4 songs… MAYBE… But it didn’t really detract from the spectacle of the show. Britney Spears is not Annie Lennox, she’s not Aretha, and she’s not even Christina Aguilera in terms of vocal chops so I kind of give her a pass when it comes to that. All I can say, I had a damn good time.
The set list was peppered with hits, 3, Hit Me Baby One More Time, Womanizer, Toxic, Piece of Me, etc… Pretty much everything was covered with the exception of Opps I Did It Again, Crazy, and a few others…
There were some numbers that missed the mark, Britney you can have so much fun with Gimmie More… But… Riding a boat isn’t it baby. Just saying…. And the show lagged in the middle. I felt the audience get a touch restless, and my attention waned as did Britney’s energy… This was remedied pretty fast though and the show picked up steam again.
Overall I was shocked I liked it as much as I did. I know! Check out the rest of the photos below, and if you like check out Ms. Britney Spears on tour now!
