Cyndi Lauper Meet & Greet! Live Concert Review & Photos! Greek Theater Los Angeles June 13, 2013! Autographs! And More!
I’m a huge fan of Cyndi Lauper, I love her. When I saw that she was going to be doing a rare concert for the 30th anniversary of She’s So Unusual, I jumped at the chance to go. For my birthday present, my friend Scott bought me a meet and greet package as well. Score!
We headed to the Greek theater were the concert was being held in Los Angeles. I love the Greek! After a bit of a cluster with the figuring out where to go and where to pick up the meet and greet passes were were in.
Along with the meet and greet we were going to get a signed poster and a photo with Cyndi Lauper. I’m so excited and don’t want to look fat in my pic. Sigh…
Scott and I talked with a couple other people who were also going to the event and lined up to go inside to meet Cyndi. We were brought to the catacombs of the Greek theater and were in a single file line. We were told that there would be two photos, Cyndi wouldn’t have time to talk. Go up, get your photo. Three count, then second photo and leave.
Wow…
Now, when I buy a meet and greet you kind of expect at least a meet.. lol… Or a greet.. But you know… It’s fine. I of course brought a couple things to get signed. I have my limited edition She-Bop shaped picture disc and my Cyndi Lauper limited edition Barbie doll. Don’t judge.
Cyndi was running even later and so we waited. Finally she came into the room. I don’t know what I expected but I thought she would be more “on” like she is onstage. She was way more low key than I expected.
People went up one by one and I admit people did not get a lot of time with her. Not much more than a hi. Now, I’m not wanting to be besties or anything but… I did expect a little more than this.
I had my doll (I’m calling it an action figure to make myself feel better from now on) and when it was my turn I just walked up with my primed sharpie. I said, “Hi Cyndi! Would you mind signing my doll/action figure.” Now, here’s where it got a little odd. She said, “Well, not really now?” Then she turned to her handler and shot him a look. I was like wow, there wasn’t like an announcement about not getting autographs, and no one said anything when I walked up.
Cyndi did sign my figure and then I got my two photos.
But I was still like… I don’t know. It wasn’t bad and she was fine, but it still was odd. I don’t think bringing something to get signed to a meet and greet was unheard of and there was about 10-15 other people with things to get signed… So… I wasn’t the only one. I was just first. Then they made an announcement that Cyndi can’t sign anything.
Now, my friend went up and he had a Goonies shirt on clearly. As he was leaving Cyndi said, “You Goonie!”
That was cute.
My action figure looks awesome though! So yay for that!
Then we sat down and got ready for the show.
Can I tell you how awesome Cyndi’s voice is!?!? Amazing. There’s nothing like watching Cyndi Lauper live. She sounds just like she did in 1988. Seriously.
This show was half music and half talking. Now, I know a lot of people don’t like the talking but really it was like being at a taping of VH-1’s Storytellers. Cyndi shared stories of the making of She’s So Unusual. The setlist was the entire She’s So Unusual album played in order. Now, I liked this but it did feel a little uneven for a concert. Hearing Girls Just Want To Have Fun as the second song was surprising. I liked it, don’t get me wrong because it’s an album that I love but live it’s just a little different.
I will say, hearing When You Were Mine live was a real treat and hearing some of the lesser known songs like, “He’s So Unusual” live which probably will never happen again was nice. I’ve seen Cyndi Lauper live about five times now and each time is amazing.
I would honestly recommend going to see her live if you have the chance especially with this tour. The Greek has a strict curfew and so the encore had to be cut short. We got Shine and an abbreviated version of True Colors acapella which was amazing!
After the show we were given a hand signed tour poster (because we had the VIP tickets). It’s stunning… STUNNING!
I had such an amazing night seriously. I got to see an amazing show, get a photo with the frakkin’ iconic Cyndi Lauper and got some cool swag! #awesome
Check out the photos from the concert below!
Until next time kids…

She-bop! Great photos! What an icon!
Two things:
1. You don’t look fat.
2. That is not, nor will never be, an action figure.
Thanks Susan… But it could be an action figure! Right… Right…
How much were the meet & greet vip tickets?
Glad u had fun, but that’s weird they “weren’t allowing autographs” for the meet and greet. And Mike, no that’s a doll not an action figure! lol
It’s an Action Figure!
it’s a doll, haha! that tour poster is stunning, will you frame it?
Doll! : )
It’s “Barbie Doll.” Not “Barbie Action Figure.” Just sayin’. 😉 Awesome experience!
Action figure!
But this “barbie” is in an action pose! “ACTION FIGURE!”
Hmm mmm, sure sure…whatever you need to tell yourself. 😉
I would think after you paid alot ( I know much VIPS usually cost) she could be a little more courteous towards autographs and at least sign and I am sure she probably hasn’t seen a action figure in awhile.
Please tell us you didn’t go up to register to buy your doll :). Not that there’s anything wrong with it. Love her and great experience….
My VIP experience was not that great. I have been a fan of her music for many years . She supports good causes and when i saw her live I really thought she put on a great show. However the VIP experience was a huge let down. Some of it may have had to do with the venue itself. I was not given good instructions and had to wait in different lines (some more than once), because I couldn’t get correct information from the people working there. The poster is nice, but the autograph was signed before, so it’s not really personalized to the individual receiving it. However ,the most disappointing part about the VIP was the meet and greet.I had thought a meet and greet would allow for at least a minute or two to interact a little with her. Instead I was hurried through like cattle with the man running the line barking the order ,” you will get on Cyndi’s right for the pic,go!” I barely had time just to say I had been wanting to meet her in person for so many years, before they took the pic and was hurried back out the door.I didn’t even get any verbal response from her . In her defense she did look very tired like she had just woke up, but after spending 300 dollars on one VIP ticket and driving over 6 hours to get to the show I was expecting a little more.
Hey! Just wondering – How big is the signed poster that they gave you??? I wil be getting mine in a few days! 😉
I think this is just how she rolls. I’ve met her a few times and she just seems “over it”.
The pics look great! I was very lucky to meet her too and take the pics.
I took my 12″ She’s So Unusual Picture Disc, and My Original SSU large poster, and they told me she wasnt going to sign anything. Thank Godness she agreed. She was very nice. She even said that she has not seen one of those posters in twenty years. Great experience, and will never for get it.
I had posted here before on my disappointing VIP meet and greet experience with Cyndi Lauper, but wanted to add that I have been to meet and greets since then with other artists that were great. I meet Cheap Trick and they were awesome. They were friendly and joking around with each other and the fans. A year ago I met Pat Benatar and her husband Neil Girado and they were both super nice to all of us . I just had a photo op with them and not the official meet and greet package , in which you went back and asked them questions, but it felt like much more of a meet and greet to me because they talked with each of us during the photo shoot and Pat came by each of us and asked our names while she signed the tour posters in front of us.
Now let me be clear i am still a big fan of Cyndi’s music and still think She’s So Unusual is the best album to come out of the 80’s and that no album since then has come close to being as great as that one (to me anyway), but I was let down by meeting her in person. It is understandable if she does not enjoy doing meet and greets. I totally can understand why people wouldn’t want to do them , but if you don’t want to do it then don’t do it. Don’t charge lots of money to fans for a meet and greet and then seem uninterested in being there. It’s insulting to people that have come to watch you in person. At the least they should have just listed it as a photo op rather than a meet and greet. Cyndi did sound great in concert and I would recommend watching her in person if you get the chance, but do yourself a favor and avoid wasting money on a meet and greet with her.
