Erica Recaps New York Comic Con 2011! NYCC! Props! Costumes! Jason Momoa! Game Of Thrones! Firefly!
Gosh, just reading The Lovely Erica’s report from New York Comic Con makes me 1. Want to go to San Diego Comic Con now and 2. avoid all crowds until next summer. LOL… Clearly, neither of those are going to happen so it’s best to just live in the moment right!
I’m so glad Erica had a great time at the Con and from the looks of things New York Comic Con is starting to rival San Diego for content and crowds. I must admit that I’ve never been to NYCC, but I’m looking forward to some of the swag Erica promised me! LOL… How I love swag!
Check out Erica’s wonderful recap after the jump!

My first visit to New York Comic Con (NYCC) was in 2006, the inaugural year which has held in a single ballroom in the basement of the Javits center.
Fast forward to 2011 and now NYCC has taken over the entire building from the basement ballrooms to the new annex. My how things have changed!
Over time, this convention has found its own voice which accents comics and then is a pretty even blend of gaming, book publishers, anime and media.
The exhibitors, publishers and studios are all serious about their presence here so they are bringing their top talent, exclusives and all sorts of goodies for the fans.
As previously mentioned, Marvel was astonishing, amazing, fantastic and uncanny. They were absolutely pulled out all the stops to promote the Avengers which kicks off summer 2012 when it debuts May 4. Woo hoo!
My only regret was not getting into the Avengers panel, but the line for that panel was insane and, alas, I was not one of the lucky few. Ah well!
A few other shows were present including the upcoming ABC TV show Once Upon A Time. They previewed the pilot and had a Q&A and signing with the creators Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.
Nikita was in town with a panel and a signing featuring Shane West and Nikita herself, Maggie Q.
Fox’s new TV show Terra Nova also held a panel featuring Jason O’Mara who made a stop at the autograph booth.
Legendary Pictures brought in some props from previous films like 300, Inception, The Dark Knight and Superman Returns as some of their other films are still in the works. Probably no need to promote that little, art house, small budget film they are working on…a little something called the Dark Knight Rises. Next year then!
But there’s more than media here at NYCC. If you like limited run, interesting toys, then NYCC’s Cultyard is designed for you! NYCC centralized a lot of these exhibitors together which included one of my favorites, Tokidoki. Simone Legno, the creator of Tokidoki, is an Italian artist who draws in a Japanese style. He was making a rare appearance and the great thing about him is, he is always willing to sketch. He spends hours and hours each day.
And speaking of cute, Katie Cook, another fun artist, was also on hand, deluged with commissions on a range of subjects.
There was also plenty of cosplay with plenty of Avengers about the floor…
…Mal and Kaylee from Firefly…
…no wait! Here’s the real Kaylee! Jewel Staite was in the house, looking lovely and signing autographs.
Likewise, there was a Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones walking around…
…as well as the original Khal, Jason Momoa (aka Conan the Barbarian). Must say, the guy likes his hats…
So there was plenty of action this week in New York. This wraps up a busy year for cons and now I get a little rest until next year!
